You bet our focus is off, lol...
The earth is far cooler now than it has been in the past, it is also far hotter.
While the existence of man might possibly contribute in some insignificant way, it worth doing a some digging utilizing critical thinking skills. In doing so you will see your time would be better spent worrying about something you can have a meaningful impact on, rather than something you can have no impact on.
In your post you mention your dogs...if you have seriously had this suggestion made to you...well think about it.

Global warming, like the ozone hole, is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Nothing you, the Chinese or anyone else can do will make a bit of difference. Once the objectives of the control freaks and socialists is achieved, the problem will be declared solved and a new crisis will instantly materialize.
FYI - The ozone "hole" occurs over Antarctica. Antarctica is the South Pole. We live near the North Pole and all of our prevailing weather systems start at the equator and flow primarily north to the North Pole. Yet, we seriously restricted the use of Freon because it was said to be the cause of an ozone hole over the South Pole. It wasn't and pretty much most of the rest of the world still uses Freon. The "hole" is a naturally occurring phenomenon that occurs because ozone is produced whenever sunlight hits the atmosphere or in other words, all the time.
In Antarctica, the days are six months long or the sun only shines there six out of twelve months. When the sun is not shining, the ozone decreases when the sun is shining, the ozone increases. But, those who have an anti-capitalism agenda did manage to drive up the cost of recharging the air conditioning in older automobiles that the poorer people still drive.

You hear no complaints about "3rd world countries" because it would not be politically correct to even mention that their pollution is much greater than that produce by the U.S. and Canada together.
Global warming, as it is being presented by the alarmists, does not exist.
Here is truth about global warming:
Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.
The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.
This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.
Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is
becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).
As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).
When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.
It's been happening for millions of years.
The worrisome and brutal predictions of drastic climate effects are based on computer models, NOT CLIMATE HISTORY.
As you probably know, computer models are not the most reliable of sources, especially when used to 'predict' chaotic systems such as weather.
Global warming/cooling, AKA 'climate change':
Humans did not cause it.
Humans cannot stop it.

Umm--look, we're having enough trouble getting the Bush administration to stop the Chinese from importing toys that are poisonous to our children. and the administration won't even enfrorce the environmental laws already on the boo,s.
Its not that I disagree with you--we do need to make environmental compliance a requirement for trade agreements--and enforce it. But, quite frankly, pusing for that while Bush is still in office is a waste of effortt. Better to work on what can be done in the meantime. Which people are dooing.

Lots of people are concerned about China. But it's starting to dawn on China that wrecking their customers economy by causing global warming is not good for business.
The silly stuff you talked about (personal pets and food) comes from people who are as unscientific as the global warming deniers.
We don't have to stop having pets or eating beef (although factory farms could use some work). We need to focus on what's important, and we have the data to be able to know what is. Here's a practical and affordable plan to reduce global warming. It was worked out by hundreds of scientists and engineers from around the world working together. It says nothing about dogs.

You are right on! It all really starts, I believe with the United Nations. Money and efforts must come from government agencies, hell I'd be willing to even pay a extra tax if it means saving my home! But you're right we must mandate and take a stand, and impose huge fines on companies that abuse the world, gee but didn't we do this with all the land dumping and chemical spill stuff from the 80s? I don't know, we just need to get rid of greed and come up with a better everything, but somehow I don't think we're going to make it before the ice caps meld into a clean washing flood and start all over, or the earth burst into flames and become space dust!

Yes, our focus is way off. Over population is the problem.
Even with our best efforts at conservation, you still have an alarming, growing population that continues to consume the earths resources. Many of them need transportation, which means more cars on the road, and jets in the air. More trees need to be cut down to build, and make room for new houses, streets, and buildings. Not to mention all the energy needed just to keep things running, and to keep humans comfortable.

The biggest problem in global warming is the population growth of the Earth is out of control. No one is doing anything about that. These outsourcing countries all believe in a big family mentality, and their hopes are doomed because their population growth will out strip any job creation. Our only hope it to close the borders and let the population meltdown disaster occur. There is nothing we can do to stop it.
