more info: tried devce manager-modem working. no call waiting on phone. short phone cable. used this ip for 3 years with no problem. can refresh and get page to work sometimes. Rebooting doesn't help. (tried all suggested except new provider. Don't think that is the problem since I have had them for so long. May be it is??)

well did you have internet before ? and also did you do anything to the computer recently? here is one thing go to control panel and click on system then click on device manager. thats a list of all your hardware. look for your modem and see if it has a yellow flag on it. if it does then its not working and you will probably have to reinstall the driver. another option is just to call your internet service provider maybe there is something wrong on there end. good luck. with computers it can be any number of things.

It's not your PC.

Can't connect to the web, losing your connection or your access speed is way slower than advertised? If you are unhappy with their service, you MUST contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP), that's what they do!!! Often, they aren't even aware of a problem, unless you tell them.

Are you disabling call waiting? Maybe someone calls you and interrupts the connection. How long is the phone wire? If it's long, you might want to use cat 3 cable.

Try changing the phone number that your computer is dialing to get a connection....usually you get a choice like ,,primary and secondary....if you have to reinstall that isp disc to do so then uninstall first and reinstall

try using other ISPs. it could be your provider's server's problem.
