Yes....I have had that happen too many times over the years....
Some of those churches that I did actually visit, only to discover that many of the people there were the same rude people that I waited on through my check stand at the grocery store....EEK!!
The sweet friendly people that I waited on.....when I accepted an invitation to The 7th Day Adventist Church, there were all the friendly people that came through my check stand!! I all ready had friends at church...It was so nice to have people come up and greet me by name!!
The "other" church, I was always the visitor and no one knew my name??
And I really dislike the old blue haired ladies that look at your appearance just to "find" anything wrong and condemn you that you need to go to church....

Not recently. Here in University City, MO, people know we have a very diverse population, and so they don't talk much about religion at all. Before, when I lived in Boulder Creek, CA, it was much the same. I suspect where almost everyone is Christian, people feel it is acceptable to be a little pushier. Also, I suspect older people are pushier toward younger people because they see it as a sort of surrogate parent role. It was your friend's mother who was rude to you, not your friend.
I would caution you against assuming it is "true Christians" who are invariably polite and that people who are rude are not "true" Christians. I know you would like to believe that, but it's an invalid assumption. Some people are diplomatic and some are not.

I am sad to say that a few people who are members of the church attend are more like the first person you described. Then there are others who are like the "true Christian" you describe.
That's why I try to be like the second person. I might suggest or tell someone that IF he/she ever wants to come to church, that would be great.
You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.
I don't want to pressure anyone or turn anyone off.

Well, this "true Christian" thing kinda gets on my nerves. I mean, who am I to decide what is "in another's heart"? But I have experienced it, and I agree that the people I like are the ones who invite rather than demand.
I'm still not into going, but it's much more pleasant for someone to offer a piece of pie than to have them smash it in your face.

I've personally never experienced that, but I'm sorry you had be be so rudely invited. I'm sure the woman didn't realize she had offended you; she was simply saying what she thought was right without thinking.
I think going to church is actually a very personal thing, and should be a decision each person makes on their own.

I would ask her why. So I could learn to be an obnoxious, intrusive, overbearing, intolerant, judgmental, superstitious, humorless, sheep. Tell her you do go to church... the church of Satan. Muuuhahahahahah. Ask her what qualifies her as a spiritual adviser. Laugh in her face. Say, "God is everywhere, why should I confine my relationship with 'him' to a man-made building?" Tell her that God personally came to you and told you that 'he' wants you to worship 'him' at the casino. Or, if your feeling nice, you could just say, "your right, thanks for the advise." Then get away from her as fast as you can.

oooooooo ya .. except im the Christian doin the invitin lol
Catholics (especially older ones) are only mean cuz they think people have to go to church cuz theyr sinful... so they see someone being sinful n tell them they SHOULD to go to church
Christians are nice because we know that were sinners to and the only thing that saves us is God's free gift... not the church or some old guy that reads like the "dry eyes guy" :)

Yes. Some people weld their Christianity like it is a hammer, others like it is a feather.
Whenever one of my helpful relatives tells me I am going to hell, I just tell them that I am sorry they believe I will be punished for doing what I think is right and then I say, "well, if people with your attitudes are those I will find in Heaven, you can keep it as that would be MY personal hell."

No, I am a protestant, and I find that the Catholics that have invited me, are very warm and loving people that would go out of their way to help me.
