$2,000 is NOT enough money unless you get a temp job RIGHT AWAY! Getting a temp job until a permanent one comes along will help you if you only have $2,000. If you simply want to move to D.C. and then job hunt you must, and I repeat must, save at least $5,000 and get a roommate.

You'll be able to find something in the $1000/mo area for a 1 bedroom. Most 1 bedrooms are 950-1600/mo. You won't find much in a safe neighborhood for less than that. Electricity will vary depending on what sort of heating you have. We have electric heating (1 bedroom) and in the winter our electric bill is around $50-60/mo. We're frugal about it though - we don't leave lights on and we turn the heat down during the day if we're not home. Water is usually included in your rent. Plan to spend at a minimum, $30/week on Metro, if you plan to take it. Fares depend on time of day and distance traveled, so it could be more, depending on your distance from your job. I run through $25 each work week, not including any side trips. Groceries - I spend on average, $150/month on groceries, including a box of organic produce delivered every other week from Washington Green Grocer. That doesn't count eating in restaurants, of course. You can get phone/DSL through Verizon for under $20/month. That's all I can think of!

That's funny because I always think Florida has a lot more going on than DC. I love Miami it's always so lively, plus its always warm. To answer your question, DC is a terribly expensive place to live, $2000 wont get you far. I suggest saving more or also consider finding a job prior to moving, maybe something that pays relocation expenses.

$2000 won't cover your first month's rent and security deposit in any decent part of the DC area. I would save up at least $4000 before making the move unless you already have a job lined up; even then, plan on roughly $1000-1500 for a one bedroom apartment (that may or may not include parking) then double it for the security deposit.

Save a whole lot more. It costs to live here. I'm thinking about moving down south. $2000 won't even cover your taxi fare, food metro, or for that much your apartment for a month.

Nope you will need atleast 5,000 just to move (Security deposit and 1st month rent) and that's not including food and money for other things. It would probally be to your advantage to stay in Florida and just move to South Beach.

Dude im from maryland and trust me its not all that crazy over here lol. And it gets cold i would just move to another part of flordia if your bored where you are now. But if your set on it just go down to U-Hall and see how much they want for one of those vans. Jobs are easy to find as long as your not pickey
