We recently got a Dell computer with Window's Vista. We use People PC for internet service. From day one we have had a bad time either getting connected or staying connected. When we can connect, we generally can't navigate away from the home page without getting that "page cannot be found" message. I went to Internet Options, Connections, Settings etc, and it makes no difference. I went online with Dell and they say it's People pc. But we have the most recent version of the software. The guy from Dell said we could unload then reinstall Vista but frankly, I would rather have a simpler solution. Please help.

Is it an internet explorer only thing or does it effect to actual connection to the internet (are you still able to use p2p, msn messenger, ... ?)

If that's the case, try firefox or opera as main browser.

If you have wireless internet and you used the cd to install it, make sure you installed the vista drivers (not xp).

Make sure your router is configured correctly and you gave the right wep/wpa (2) key to access your network.

If you want to be sure wether vista is at fault and not your internet connection (router, ...) download a linux live cd and check if that can access the internet withouth any problems.

It could be People PC...especially if it's a dial-up connection..try talking to them. You may also want to try using a different internet browser, like firefox...(no i'm not advertising). IE has a tendency to move slower than other browsers and the sites could be timing out. Then again, you may just have to upgrade IE. Check the microsoft page to see if you have the latest version.

If you just got the computer then Vista shouldn't be the problem, especially if Vista was already on there.

Grah, tech support..they always want to take the drastic way.
don't reinstall vista...that'll just waste your time.

In Internet connection settings did you click to automatically detect proxy settings? Try that if not.

there is a problem with your internet connection. Os has nothing to do with it.try a different website as there might be a problem with the site itself-the server may be down or the address might be wrong
