For example: Rue de Grenelle, Avenue Montaigne, Boulevard Saint-Germain, Avenue des Champs-Elysees, Rue Washington and Rue de Monceau. Are they parallel or not to the River Seine?

Well, Paris isn't an American city; Meaning that the street were there before any car and the street system isn't based on a North/South or East/West grid. They are not straight and don't cut at angle, that is why it is so easy to get lost in medieval streets like the ones next to Notre Dame for example. The best thing is to check out the internet or go to your local bookstore in the travel section they sell maps of the city.
When you are there you will be amazed by the shortness and somewhat narrowness of certain streets. I had the opposite feeling the first time I came to the US.
My advice would be: don't try to use the Seine as an orientation tool, use a map. Enjoy being lost in Paris it is a wonderful way to discover the city and its hidden treasures.

The Champs-Elysee isn`t.
The others - well, find them on the map, and compare them to the trail of the river.

However, the BEST way to find out is to take a holiday there.
You`ll know for sure AND have yoursefl a good time too ;)
