As an ex-catholic I agree with you. It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for Pope Benedict to go to heaven.

So, tell me how much "money" they have?
Do you recommend that they sell off all the historical treasures to a museum? Which one do you think could afford it?
Do you realize that they have some of the best facilities in the world to maintain some of these treasures?

Why shouldn't the Louvre sell off some of its riches to help feed the hungry and poor of the world?

Why shouldn't England sell off the Crown Jewels?

Why shouldn't the United States sell off the Gold Reserves at Fort Knox?

The Catholic Church already does more for the poor, sick and hungry in the world than ANY OTHER RELIGION. Hospitals, nursing homes, schools, mental health services, food banks and more abound.

Why do you think that the Catholic Church is so flush with cash? If they were, do you think so many church buildings would be closing around the world? I know of few Catholic churches which are actually meeting all of their financial goals. In my town, one is in immediate danger of closing because they can't afford the upkeep of their building which needs $1,000,000 or more in repairs.

Honestly, many of the protestant ministries begging for cash are much better positioned than many, if not most, Catholic churches.
Check out the links below for a bit of what the church actually does.

You know - i usually don't have much of a problem when a person places a legitimate criticism of a philosophy, religion, or ideology.

But this one flies in the face of common sense - so in defence of the Catholics.....Its a tad bit infruriating when people start to criticize without taking into account externals such as Budgets and operating costs.

Does anyone know what the Operating Cost of a Multinational Institution with branches all across the world and staffing that equals the size of a small nation?

Just take a look at the cost of running a UN-approved Non-Governmental Organization.

Jesus said the poor would always be among us.

If the Church sold off everything, she could feed and shelter the poor of the world....for about 20 minutes.

And the entire word would lose access to the amazing works of art and faith that the Church has commissioned and protected over the past 2000 years.Poor slobs like you and me would never have the chance to see the Pieta and other treasures.

Perhaps you don't realize that the Catholic Church helps millions of poor and starving people every year, more than any other church out there. But then, you don't care about the truth - you just want to bash the Church.

And if you think a HUGE and complex entity like the Vatican is supposed to run smoothly on dimes and nickels, you've got a screw loose. Practically speaking, it's going to take a lot of money.

So how about a little "tolerance" and understanding?

The Catholic Church has lots of missionaries in Third World countries and help many thousands of people around the world, but I do believe a lot more could be done. Gold chalices are worthless to God!

I agree,I think God wants our generosity to not be put in statues or stained glass windows,or huge churches but into the poor, widows, job training for uneducated, teaching the true gospel of Jesus. Its a farce, all nothing but religious genuflecting.

No matter what the Catholic church does it is jumped upon by those without the decency to check the facts, try doing 100 good turns and hardly anyone will notice,do one thing badly and suddenly everyone points the finger, it`s so easy to be judgemental these day`s.

As far as I know, alms, tithes, donations received by the church are well accounted for, maybe you could ask and research where the money goes. It would be bad if we come to know that money is used for business and pleasure.
