I just ordered a new mattress which comes with a free delivery service. I'm not planning on asking the delivery guys to assemble anything - they'll just bring the mattress through my front door and leave it there - I'll do the rest myself. I don't know if I'm supposed to tip them in this case, but if so, how much?

You don't have to, but I always do.

Movers don't expect anything, since they get so little from customers, so why not make their day?

I always give them $5 and say to have coffee or a beer on me, then thank them for being on time or for being careful with your purchase. They will have a new respect for their job and you will feel better for being a gracious customer.

I was wondering the same thing as I am also having a mattress delivered. However, my delivery is costing $70. I think if my delivery were free, I would tip but given that I incurred the cost of shipping, I won't.

You should if they are nice and work quickly and cleanly. A lot of those men don't make enough money and really appreciate a few extra bucks. If the men are rude and leave garbage or track dirt into your house don't tip them.

In your case I wouldn't tip them they are not really doing any extra work. If it was a king size mattress they had to haul up three flights of stairs and through tiny doorways, I would tip them.

A tip is an extra. It is NEVER required, otherwise it wouldbe called a fee. If you feel they did a very good job, or did more than they were required to, then a tip may be waranted. And the amount would depend on what was done. If all you want is to get the furniture to your front door, then no tip is required. That's their job to do that. They already get paid for it.

You should at least give them $5. You are getting FREE delivery, some places charge you $40. These guys work hard all day to.

If they do a good job then I would tip them something. Like if they are courteous, mindful of your things when hauling the mattress through the house, and if they are prompt then I would give them like $5 a piece.

No you don't have to tip the delivery guys. It is not necessary.

I was a courier once for a printing company - i'd deliver the customers' packages (usually they were small, - but sometimes they were large boxes) anyway, i'd deliver these packages to our customers - some farther than others and i never got tipped. NEVER. (i should have tho - the pay my employer was giving me was absolute crap!) LOL

You never -have- to tip anyone for their services, its just something you do if you feel like thanking them. Personally I'd save the tip for a waitress if you really feel like tipping someone. Anyone that has to deal with crabby old ladies complaining about the steak being ever so slightly cold deserves a couple extra bucks in my book.

You don't have to do anything. If your not required by law to do it, you don't have to. It's all up to your discretion. If you want to, do it, if you don't, then don't. Here's a problem with society, they cant think on their own anymore, they have to ask others if they should start off the day on the right or left foot. Just get out of bed. Also, they're paid specifically to bring that furniture to houses by their employer. Thats like tipping the guy at the cash register at McDonald's. Do it if you want, but you don't have to.

Edit: Lol, checked back at this one because I knew sum one would give me thumbs down. It's not my fault you don't like the truth.

Edit: Anyone, feel free to message me if you need another eye opening experience like this, lol. Peace.
