Hi all, I have been at Tattoo school in Thailand this last year and I want to open my own studio in WA as finding work in other pplz studos is basically impossible. I am wondering about licensing or any special regestrations I may need as I can't seem to find the info. Also any other ideas or words of wisdom for my shop will be appreciated.

I hear from some of my customers that tattoo is controlled by bikers gangs in Australia and they will create problems for you if your suddenly become a competitor. You better check that out first.
Besides that, I think you may not be ready yet to tattoo professionally after just going to the Tattoo School. You can test yourself this way. Get 10 friends and convince them to be tattooed by you (offer for free). Do some reasonably sized tattoos (some colors, some greywash, some tribals, some only linework) on them. Wait 2 months for them to fully heal, then check to see how the tattoos look. If all of them turn out great (like you see in the tattoo magazines), then you should have no problem getting started.

Sounds like it would work okay. Both are cosmetic in nature. You're going to have to study the laws in your state very carefully, to open a licensed studio. At least as far as the tattooing end of it goes. A helpful hint, try to pick a location near a military base, if at all possible. Hire seasoned tattoo artists. Their customers follow them around. An upper middle class neighborhood is where the money is. Your location can make you or break you. You'll have to have separate entryways for the businesses, to be up to code, but you can make it work. Sounds good to me. Good luck to you! Oh, I forgot. You're looking for a name. Hell's Bells Nail and Ink Emporium, is what popped into my head just now. The interesting thing about your idea, is that many women get their nails done regularly. You'll probably get clients that were always 'thinking' about getting a tattoo, right where you are. Tattooing on women is almost bigger now than it is on men.

contact your local government agency - they'll be able to tell you exactly what you need (and i'd imagine there'd be licensing necessities - hygiene etc being important in a tattoo parlour...)

also be prepared for large costs to set up and maintain premises (business rates, bills, fittings etc) and very little business to begin with - tattoo artists are generally found by word of mouth, and if there are many established ones in the area you might have trouble breaking into the market

maybe worth seeing if you can apprentice for a while? i've never heard anything good about body mod 'schools', although you may have been to a good one - if you apprenctice you'll get known by local regulars
