the old motor was a carbureted 1.6l and the car is a standard-will a 22r bolt up to the tranny? and if i got an old carbureted one what all would i have to do to make it fit?

Actually it would take a lot of work to put a 22R into a front wheel drive SR5 considering th 22R only came in rear wheel drive vehicles. If you were to do it, you would have a lot more to worry about than just getting it to bolt up to the tranny. You would have to do a lot of modifaction to the engine mounts as well.

You would be better off putting in a 4AGE The 4AGE shares the same block as your SR5. Since your SR5 is an 89 you have the 4AF in it. You can get a 4 AGE for it from the Corolla GTS of the same body style.


You also have a couple other options when it comes to the 4AGE, you could get the Silvertop 4AGE which is a 20 valve (in later model Corollas), or you could get the supercharged 4AGZE from an MR2. Both of those will also bolt in. I know that the 4AGE has different gearing than the 4AF, but they both use the C series transmissions.

Front wheel drive chevy nova toyota corolla were not much there to work with. My best suggestion is buy a new car!
