Why would anyone believe in alot of things that seem phony to the rest of us ? Why do people give money to complete strangers to tell them their future ? Why do people read fortune cookies ?
The answer to your question and all the others is because people are always looking for something else out there, something that cant be explained, or some otherworldly powers that can guide and shape their lives. Believing in demons and possession makes some people think that maybe they dont control all of their own will and the bad things they do can be blamed on an unseen entity.

They would believe because they want to. You seem to have a lot of questions about demons, but you keep saying that it's the demons that are possessing people... Maybe it's the other way around, and people are the ones who are possessing the demons.

Instances of demon possession are absolutely phony. The peculiar actions of the so said victim is mostly due to mental disorder. Some time it could be physical ailments like anemia,general debility or even hunger. The exorcists have a very lucrative business of relieving some one from demon possession.They even manage fake shows of relieving some one from the clutches of demon/devil/spirits etc. Even rational intelligent persons avoid interfering due to the fear of unknown. I will never believe in a book which propagates the theme of demonic possession.

I think that a person that can steal from their own family, or kill someone in cold blooded murder are demon possessed. Also to these, people, spoiled little brats like Brittney Spears, Michael Jackson and others are demon possessed also. OJ Simpson, Colombo, and others as well.

One could argue that psychiatric patients are possessed by demons.
In one's own life, it is very easy to have demons which influence you to do things that are wrong.
I believe in demons, personally.
There are definitely forces in this world, doing great evil. Come up with a better explanation, than demons?
