Why is it not mentioned so much these days?

Instead we find (often religious) doctors working in fields of neuroscience and psychotherapy. I wonder if religious faith in the reality of demons and the devil has been largely supplanted by science/rationalism, or if it is just not mentioned because it is deemed politically incorrect' nowadays to consider mental illness as the devil's work or possession?

What are your feelings on the matter?

From a Christian's point of view, demons would ultimately be behind all of human suffering, but they probably use natural means to do so. Take away the natural, or materialistic, cause, and the physical symptoms should disappear.

Not all Christians believe that all of our problems are merely physical; most believe that emotional trauma is a mixture of physical and spiritual causes, and that one needs to treat both.

If you are asking why we do not perform exorcisms any more (and I think that is what you are really asking), most Christian denominations believe that exorcisms can only be performed by people who have been given special miraculous powers, like the Apostles or the prophets, and that the average layperson cannot do it -- based on a passage in the book of Acts that describes a failed attempt at an exorcism by a group of seven brothers who lacked the power.

=====edit=====
Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out." Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. (One day) the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding.

I wouldn't say it is politically incorrect, but it is scientifically/medically incorrect, since scientists can only work with what they can prove or disprove, and demons like gods cannot be proved or disproved. It is just as possible that demons cause medical problems as it is that gods exist, but doctors can only work with what they can see, touch, test. A believer in demons is probably on safest ground if they cover all bases and get both a doctor and a priest, minister, etc. for help.

In biblical times, it was believed that an epileptic's convulsions were caused by the person being seized by a demon and/or an angel, hence the term seizure. In present times, scientists know that seizures are caused by neurons in the brain misfiring, but they still don't know what causes the neurons to misfire. Thus, I see nothing different between the religions belief that demons are causing the neurons to misfire and the scientific belief that that is just the way it is or one day we will know what causes the neurons to misfire. When that happens, the question will still exist, well then, what causes the cause of the neurons misfiring? Since demons, angels, gods cannot be proved or disproved, to the religious they are just as valid an explanation for medical problems as anything the doctors will ever come up with.

It's not politically incorrect to believe in something that has existed since the very advent of sin! We see and hear demons being spoken of all throughout the world, but they are manifested in such ways that man has become somewhat jaded by their presence. Demons can be found in EVERYTHING that is wrong with society as a whole. We might not call them demons much anymore, but their power is no less evident.

Because we know more about mental illness, the causes (both biological and social).

I think that a lot of people in the areas that research mental illness, are more likely to be scientifically minded (guess), and would rather get the the cause of the problem than attribute it to a devil.

Aloha! i've got faith that money evokes a team determination to regulate to a non secular substitute, for the objective of being politically stunning. An occasion may be that a church could loose members if it would not adjust to a properly-liked doctrine or coaching. The loss of members could have a unfavorable result on the gross revenues the church needs to function. Your question "Is it extra useful to be one or the different" demands a individual to %. one over the different as a familiar rule of prepare. i might say that as quickly because it comprises retaining directly to a perception device bearing directly to faith, it is not a sensible thought to contemplate the value of being one or the different (%. or P.I.) what's important is locate each and all of the bible to coach others that the God of Moses and David (as defined contained in the bible) is genuine. If we adore Him and prefer to delight Him, then we are able to be politically incorrect in common terms whilst being politically stunning is going against the instructions of the bible, particularly or not it is going against the instructions of the church. thank you for asking an exceedingly sturdy question. it extremely is unhappy that being politically stunning performs a roll contained in the instructions of a few religions. it extremely is why it is so important to maintain reported via examining the bible on my own and with the earnest prefer to get to renowned God for my area ..........it is achieved! I think that you hit it right on the head. People want to go to the doctor to get fixed. When they have a family member that has gone weird, they either put them away in a mental hospital or they load them up with medications. I think they should take them to have the demons removed from them. I think that it is such a unknown area by so many people that many people actually think that Satan no longer possesses people. Kinda weird. When science and medicine can't fix it maybe they need to go to the Creator. Just my take on all of this.
