Surprise, there is still demon possession. There is also demon oppression. Why do you think our mental hospitals are so full? They get plenty of action. But they are not able to possess Christians.

I agree with the first answer and wish it were uniformly true. Unfortunately, some people still believe in this sort of thing and blame things like mental illness and autism on demons. In the past year one autistic child was killed and another seriously injured in exorcism rituals by fundamentalist Christians in the U.S. There are other cases as well around the world.

But if you've ever been with someone undergoing a psychotic breakdown it's easy to see how that could have been interpreted as a demonic possession. Very scary.

Demons never existed, so there were none to give up anything. We just advanced as a society and came up with better explanations for weird behavior.
Religion is just superstition.
