Yes, but it sounds like you are considering a PS2? It is a console now with a very limited life span. Depending on your children's age I'd reccomend a Wii, if they are younger, a PS3 if they are 12+ and you have money to spare (This also plays PS2 games if that is what they are specifically asking for) or an Xbox 360 if they are 12 + and you are on a tighter budget. On all of these consoles, for multiplayer a second controller is necessary. Bundles are quite common though, so ask in store if there are any deals that include 2 controllers.

There is the New Playstation 3 (PS3) and the previous version Playstation 2 (PS2)
1. PS3 is about £425-£450 depending on the bundle it comes with. (Two dualshock controllers, 2games)
2. PS2 is about £99 (1 dualshock controller)
I recommend to buy the PS3 as it can play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. It has wireless controllers. It can play blue ray disc. It has high definition (HD) output.
Whereas the PS2 can play only PS2 games. It doesn't comes with memory card (essential to save game profiles). Most of the latest games is coming out on the PS3 platform.
Dualshock controller is only one controller.
The price value of PS2 is very down

Umm... in the standered pack you buy they only come with one dual shock controller. However, shop around and you will find packs with two controllers

well that is true, but if you read closely there is a new 40GB ps3 coming out. It has much less features and it is much cheaper in price as well but the features that are missing make the 40GB ps3 pretty ****.
