Your family obviously have some limiting beliefs that they are trying to impose on you. My family used to pull the same crap on me.
Sure some people don't like their jobs. They also may believe that the purpose of life is to work in a job that doesn't fullfill you and barely makes ends meet in the hope of retiring after 60 years.
Unfortunately a large number of people die within 5 years of retirement leaving a meagre inheritance for their spouse or children after nearly a full lifetime of misery.
It is all social control crap! taught by the wealthy to the rabble to keep them under the thumb. It becomes so ingrained that parents truly believe it is a virtue to work hard in a job you hate.
Some people (Me) love their jobs.
I decided 2 years ago that I didn't want that life. I started investing and then called it quits on a career in law which had begun to bore me to tears.
I now work in Wealth education and love my job!
You can too, if you have family that will look out for you and you can obviously read and write and use a computer, the chances of starving are minimal. If you don't have kids take the gamble and try and find a job that inspires you.

Currently i don't care for my job but there have been positions in the past that I have enjoyed.
The problem is that many people take the first decent job that comes along as opposed to waiting for that great job to accept. When we settle we then are locked into a place so to speak that doesn't make us happy.
The only way to change that it to find the job that will make you happy NOT just pay you well. YOU could be in a 90k+ job but if the environment is TOXIC then you will be unhappy in that position.
I learned this the hard way and NOW I'm out there looking for something that will truly make me happy and that is something I will enjoy doing everyday!

I do love my job, but its not 100% perfect and I have come to deal with that. For example, there is a woman in the office that drives everyone around her insane. Its a major downfall to my job, but I stay for the reasons that make me love it. Being miserable and hating job is no good. You stop putting your best effort in and dread going there. I quit a couple jobs because of this. Maybe you should look into a different path. Best wishes.

In this day and age where jobs are scarce having a job is a wonderful thing but you should like what you do. If you don't it can make you miserable in other aspects of your life. Look for something that will make you happy, with pay that will make your wife happy. Check out what I do, I love it!

I loved my job as a Care Manager in a General Hospital - it often entailed very long hours since I had to stay and see a patient's family who had travelled miles after work.
"My" patients and the nursing staff were wonderful.
I retired in 1995 and it still feels like "going home" on occasions when I've had to revisit the hospital.
Are you not able to look around at other things which may be available, while still holding on to the job which is bringing you a wage at the moment?

I love my job. Been at it for nineteen years. Obviously there are some days that are a bit trying but, on the whole, I look forward tae going tae work. Possibly the fact that I work with a great bunch of people, is the key to my happiness!!

Yes.
Although my job isn't stretching my abilities (I had a child young and am planning on re-training when she has left home, mother first, self later!) I do find it intersting as I work for a firm of Civil & Structural Consulting Engineers typing, marketing, training, that sort of admin thing, and they deal with marinas, historic buildings, new state of the art buildings that are funky, it makes the boring job worth while.

I am a librarian and I love it - it was always my dream job! I am surrounded by books all day and get to chat to people about them!
There are more demanding sides of the job, the admin can be a pain and some kids can get aggressive (beleive it or not lol) but I wouldn't swap it!

I would say that the vast majority of people work because they have to earn money. There are a few lucky people who work for other reasons such as self actualization, social, artistic or spiritual calling and so on.
With this important point in mind there is a broad spectrum ranging from:
'I hate my job. All of it'
to
'I like my job most of the time'.
... and with lots of combinations and degrees of happiness and unhappiness in between.
I fall into the category of: 'I don't like my job, but I have to do it. Therefore, it is to my advantage to try to reconcile myself with this fact and get on with it, to the best of my ability. Plus there are millions of people who have much worse jobs than mine'.
Compromise is the name of the game, I guess.

Some jobs are definitely better than others. People who work in places like McDonalds have bad jobs because they have to work hard for very little money. Other jobs can be bad because they are stressful. It's all about having a balance between busyness aand good pay. Who you work with and your working conditions are also important. If you have to wear a horrible uniform or a name tag or hat or something then you're job is kind of degrading.
People who like their jobs generally work in places with low stress, a medium workload, not too boring, not too busy and work with people they like. They usually work in decent/relaxed coniditions.
