Long hair should be straight, and parted down the middle.
If you have a wreath of flowers to put around your head they liked that too! (flower children)
You could pull a few strands from both side of your head and braid them down the back of your head, with a small flower or ribbon where the band goes.
Also, they would make a few braids (very thin) around the base of the head and let them fall into the straight hair.
Short hair was straight with a braid on either side or one pulled down the back.
Be sure to wear big hooped earrings, or hanging beaded ones, if you have some. Long beads around the neck.

If you have long hair, part it down the middle. Think "Brady Bunch" and you'll probably manage.
