if the company is not providing housing you are going to be cutting it VERY close, housing over the summer skyrocketed and price on everything went up b/c of inflation, I suggest you find another job or request that they pay for your housing

I work as an English teacher in the central part of China and my salary is 3800 Yuan a month, that includes an apartment. About $500 USD. I do well here, BUT, Shanghai and Beijing are much more expensive. A meal out here costs about 30-50 Yuan for two at an average restaurant, in any major city, at the very least double that, probably triple.

You will not be paid enough, even if you are given an apartment.

The first poster is right on. He knows from a better vantage point.

I live in Shanghai and I can tell you. Unless you get free accommodation you won't survive on 6000 RMB per month. That is less than $1000. My apartment costs me 5500 RMB per month and then I like to eat. Beijing is not cheap and with the Olympics next year it will get more expensive. Most people in China work 6 days a week and up to 80 hours PW to earn 6000 RMB. Do you have a work contract that tells you your weekly hours??

hi, not sure if your accommodation is provided. otherwise you can expect to pay 1200 - 2800 rmb per room pending how close you need to be to the city centre, whether you need the whole apt or sharing an apt with others... how you want to pay for it (per month or quarterly). As beijing is getting cold, check whether your apt provides heated flooring. well if you are cooking a bit and do not mind dining at the local eateries.... its still ok.... public transport is affordable and convenient.

Sorry, 4000rmb and 6000rmb isn't cut it! Living cost is higher than other cities in China with Shanghai as the exception.

if you get free apartment then 6000 will be enough. if you are a native english speaker you can make at least 4000 yuans a month a part time (teaching).
