Ok, I'm 38 and have been breaking out since I was 11 years old!! I have probably tried more products than all you guys put together (cuz I'm sure I'm older than everyone else answering this Q). Do NOT use Dove soap on your face!! The people who used it with good results were unusually lucky. Dove soap contains 25% creamy oils and will make you get more pimples. The BEST soap I have found, believe it or not, is IVORY SOAP or Neutrogena Oily Skin Formula Soap. The past several years I have used Ivory because it helps dry up excess oils and makes it so I hardly break out anymore.

Facewashes will leave you greasy for the most part, unless it's the Neutrogena orange colored face wash with salycylic acid, but still... Ivory soap is the BEST!!!

Also make sure you are gently exfoliating your face with something like Freemans Apricot Scrub for acne prone skin. That gets rid of blackheads. Apply Clean & Clear Persa Gel after you wash your face each time. It has 10% benzoil peroxide and works pretty good. If you can get a prescription, ask for Benzamycin gel. Something about the benzoil peroxide WITH a topical antibiotic just zaps the zits right away.

Food really DOES have an effect on your skin - chocolate gives me a zit every time. Drinking lots of water helps control oils and breakouts because it helps flush the toxins through your system. Any candy or sugar can make you break out. Eat healthy fruits and veggies and NEVER let sweat sit on your face! Wash it right off.

Sulfur soap was a big help for me. I'm 25 & I've tried a lot of anti-acne soaps & cleansers but nothing worked. I even tried some anti-acne creams/astringents from 3 derm clinics(recommended by their dermatologists of course) but no luck. I've been using Dr. Kaufmans sulfur soap for less than a month and i can really see the effect. My acne stopped popping out now and my next concern is how to get rid of the ugly scars it left.

I'll be honest with you - no soap at all. When I was younger I got spots all the time, my skin was greasy like half an hour after I'd washed. I tried absolutely every kind of facewash and nothing helped, so I stopped using soap at all, except for something non-perfumed, usually Dove, once a day and my skin just cleared up.
