They are very good for the organised person. Prep a meal the night before like a chicken/beef/lamb etc/ Add some chopped veg and put it in the fridge.
When you get up in the morning switch on the kettle for your tea/coffee and switch on the slow cooker. By the time you get home from work, your dinner will be cooked.
They are very good for cheaper cuts of meat that need a longer slower cooking.
You can roast a chicken in them, make bread( I did and it was very good) do anything within reason.
They cost next to nothing to run and don't take 24 hours to cook anything. 6 hours is minimum.
We bought another one last weekend from Argos for £16.66. It will cook enough for a family of four.

If my husband wasn't so picky and I still ate meat, I would cook in a slow cooker all the time. They're convenient. Easy to clean. You can put a meal in the morning and it's perfect by dinner time. The only thing was my husband doesn't like tender moist food -he's more of a crunchy crispy kind of guy and now that I don't eat meat...well...I've never tried cooking veggies in a slow cooker...so..it's sitting in our cupboards now.

That depends on how much time you have to spend cooking in your day, and what you like to eat. If you are VERY busy there is nothing so far that replaces it that the average person can afford. If you like things like kalua pork, theres no better way to get it without digging a hole in your yard. Some things just don't taste right (to my middle class american family tastebuds) unless they've been cooked all day in a crockpot. I think they end up stuck in the corner because people lose track of that handy little book that comes with it outlining all of the creative things you can use it for that slip your mind. You can bake a cake or cornbread in them, bake a lasagna or ziti...so many things if I could just find that booklet!

I think slow cookers are really good, you put everything in it in the morning before you leave for work and by the time you come home from work you walk in and your house smells of lovely food and all you have to do is dish it up. Lovely

Mine is a godsend, I use it quite regularly, especially this time of year because I can just chuck in the dinner on the way to work and it's done when I get in! Yesterday I did meatballs in tomato sauce, they were lovely!
My favourite thing to do is barbecue chicken and it is really handy to cook a joint in on a Sunday as I have a small oven so I can cook more roasties!

We are canal boaters and that's mostly where I would use ours - a mini one which will run with an inverter.
Very useful to throw everything in at the start of a day's cruising and to know that at night when we tie-up, feeling very tired, that I don't have to bother with cooking a meal.
If it's a curry, I sometimes cook the rice to serve with it, in a thermos jug.

They're a great idea, especially if you're at work....you'll use it loads of times in the first couple of weeks.....and then it will be consigned to the garage. I say garage, cos in my case....the kitchen cupboards are already full of all those gismos and gadgets that I once thought would be a great, timesaving idea!!

They are ok in the winter. Just sling root veg in, cube up some beef, cover with a bit of water, flavour and put it on about 24 hours, yes 24 hours before you eat. Stir occasionally during the day. The meat and veg are really tender. We use ours quite often. Leave it on overnight, and mm mmm

They are great, especially for shift workers but I have heard the slow cooking reduced the nutrients and some of the goodness.

I think they're amazing!! When I come in from the nightshift, I brown the meat, chop the veg and throw everything in!!
Dinner is sorted in a flash and it took next to no effort!!
It's ready for when I wake up, so it's like it's been made for me.
You can make almost everything in them!
