Set a GOAL before you start and don't take more than you can afford to lose. Also stay away from the ATM machines. It's best to leave your credit cards at home. If your goal is to triple your money and you reached that Goal, then "take your money and run", but here are a few pointers:
1) Always use your Casino VIP card to build up points. Go
to the VIP Booth or see a Host and get 3 cards to get you
started (and don't forget them in the machines).
2) Always play the MAXIMUM (whether it's a 5 cent machine
or a $1 machine). You ask why? Because:
A) It will give you a higher gambler's rating and build up
your points fast to get comps (i.e. a free room, meal,
show, etc.)
B) It will increase your chances of winning the BIG
jackpot and your credits will be more generous.
C) If the machine is giving you a lot of action (credit pay-
outs), stay on it. If it goes cold, cash out and move
on to another one.
3) Play 3 machines at the same time (don't forget to insert
your VIP card in all 3) and do the "3 strikes you're out"
method on each one of them. If after 3 spins, it
doesn't give you any action (earned credits) move on to
another because you are playing a "dead machine".
4) Don't expect to win, but if you hit a Jackpot stay at the
machine until you are paid your winnings. Some people
get so excited, that they leave the machine for 1 minute
to go tell their spouse or bf and someone else could put a
claim on it. TIP the Slot attendant if you hit a Jackpot
(their wages are minumum and they depend on tips).
5) Check your VIP Card points and if you feel like you put a
lot of TIME (not necessarily money) into gambling, see a
Host and ask for a free comp. AC and Las Vegas honor
the Free Comps, but the casinos in Connecticut don't.
6) If you are not getting any action on any of the machines,
it's just not your LUCKy day! Go home and come back
another day.
7) Lastly, stick to your guns! Once you reached your goal,
stop gambling, otherwise, eventually you'll only give it back
to the casino.

As already stated, the best way to not lose money on the slots is to not feed them. But you gotta take your chances and have a little fun right? The slots are rigged to pay out a certain percentage and of course, the house is always on the winning end of that. I'm not sure what type of slots you have in America but here in Australia, if you have a little win of say $5 then you get the chance to go 'double or nothing' on that win by choosing whether the next card is red (heart or diamond) or black (spade or club). This 'double or nothing' feature is actually the best odds you will get in the entire casino. The odds are 50/50, even though it doesnt seem like it at times. Other games like roulette where you choose red or black is actually not 50/50 odds because there are a couple green slots which tips the odds slightly in favour of the house. Good luck Penny and bet with your head, not over it.

I stay away from slot machines and stick with roulette. I like to play red or black. The odds are 1.111 to 1. Much better than you'll find on any slot machine.
