In the final [12] races of the season, what can Nascar do,in the points system,to make AT LEAST half the race as exciting as the final 15 laps were at Talladega

No, the points had nothing to do with the ending of the race. in the past I don't ever remember as boring race as was Sunday's. I am a backer of the COT but for some reason and I don't know why it made a once great race to watch one of the most boring

I do agree with you something needs to be done about the point system but it has nothing to do with this race.
They need to scrap it like they will do there old cars and go back to the old system with one change a that is give the winner of the race a few more points than second place. If you even have to do that. They never had a problem with the old system before the chase.
The chase sucks, always has sucked, and will always suck.

If NASCAR want's a playoff style season ender, here it is. 10-12 cars in the "playoffs" like it is now. The playoff teams would be decided by points at the end of homestead. Pick the track, and they run 3 races, in 3 consecutive days there. Or even 3 different tracks. To make it better, there's really no need for them to be really long races either. Just get to it! A road course with limited laps would be a great opener to the weekend. Bristol with 50 laps would be an awesome second day. You get the idea. The only cars on the track are those in the playoffs. At the end of the first race, the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th place cars are done. At the end of the second race, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th go home too. The third and final day will provide you with your champion.

The biggest problem as I see it right now is that we have a "playoff" but everybody else is still on the track. Also, unlike other sports, if you do poorly in one race it's ok because you can make it up later. If you knew that you would go home and lose your shot at a championship at the end of the race if you didn't place well, I think you'd see a very different race.

Also, part of the problem is that you were watching a restrictor plate race.

NASCAR is oout to protect their top teams. These teams are known and the chase is just one way top secure the sponsors dollars to gaurinty that certain drivers and teams are getting oublished time.
The chase, top 35 in owners points and provisionals do this,in so doing good teams get sent home.
The race at Talladega was intresting in one respect and that was how the COT would run,and handle.Well this was done and teams and NASCAR have learned things to make the race better.
I heard people at the track say there were not enough wrecks, well the COT did part of it's job made a safer event.
All through the race there were swapping of position and running 2 or 3 wide, but when dust settled there was a train of 20 to 30 cars for 20 or 30 laps, then shuffling again.
But the Gordon around Johnson move was a classic slingshot manuver that the COT and it's boxy size made possible.

One thing that might help is something like 2 points for every ten laps led, 1 point for 10 laps in top 5 and 1/2 point for 10 laps in top ten at restrictor plate races.

Unfortunately, points have nothing to do with making the race
exciting. It was a 500 mile survival race. The more boring
the race, the better chance the driver has to make it to the
end. IE, less chance of being involved in the BIG one.

They need to do away with the top 35 to insure that a driver gets in a race. It is suppose to keep spending down but for who? If the top 43 qualifers had raced at Dega the chase really would have been flip flopped. Some of the big boys would have been watching from the house. If they can't qualify in top 43 send them home.

I think the current points system has ensured that the drivers will be as aggressive as they could ever get. Any more changes could have the opposite effect. It depends on what kind of racing you find exciting.

20 points difference THEN add 10 bonus for wins.
