It could be two ways, normally. Maybe your partner has a low self esteem or been badly hurt in the past, making it difficult for them to ever trust someone without an awful lot of help and reassurance.
The other way is unfortunately because they're not very trustworthy themselves, and either think everyone is like them, or are trying to hide their guilt. Hope it's the first.

People who tend to not be trusting of others often fall into one of 2 categories. Either they have been seriously burned in the past and trusting anyone is very difficult, or, they themselves have done something wrong and have a guilty conscience and are projecting their guilt on to you.
