Don't try to remove yourself. Go to the doctor and have them remove it. you could end up puncturing your ear drum if you tried to do it yourself.

Does your ear hurt? If not and there is no reason to believe your eardrum has been injured, flush it out.
May as well do both ears while your at this. I do this about every 6 months. Won't believbe what you get out of your ear!
Lay on couch and pour a 50/50 water / peroxide mixture into the ear. Leave it sit about 30 minutes then do other ear.
Fill bath tub with hot water, hot as you can tolerate, climb and put your head under until your ears are submerged. Soak for several minutes. Using a bulb syringe (buy at pharmacy if you need one), flush the ear with forceful and copious amounts of water. Takes several flushes 10-25 to get the stuff out and make sure your ear canal in clean. Do one ear at a time and kep it flowing.
Good luck! works wonders.

The girl above said not to put anything in your ear bigger than your elbow, which IS the rule of thumb...but people that don't clean their ears are gross!
If it's not TOO far in there, have somebody with steady hands try to get it out for you with tweezers, but only if it is so close to the outside of the ear that the tweezers won't go into the ear canal.
But I recommend just going to the doctor. At least that way, if they puncture your ear drum you can possibly sue them. :)

Go see your Doctor for assistance, placing any foreign object in your ear canal could result in a rupturing your ear drum, causing major complications. The cotton will not damage anything in there, so you have time to call your family Dr, or go to the ER.

if someone is with you that can help-have them pull it out with a pair of tweezers ONLY IF THEY CAN SEE IT!!
if not, then i would make an appt to see your dr asap or go to the nearest urgent care to have it safely removed.
don't try putting anything else (liquid included-water,peroxide,etc) in your ear. this could push the cotton further into your ear canal and the liquid could get trapped behind the cotton, causing an infection.
go to the dr and get it removed safely.

You need to go to the doctor. Let them know what happened so they are prepared in advance to get it out. It will sit in there gathering wax and create a pretty nasty ear infection. Happened to my friend, was painful.

go to the doctor and he/she can look and see if it is in your ear canal and remove it if it is still there.
