Tin cans used to look silvery on the inside and food was decanted into something else to store in the fridge but now the tins seem to be painted white inside except for a narrow strip from top to bottom, about the width of a matchstick. Does this mean things have changed for the better? Can we store these cans of food in the fridge?

This gets asked all the time. The food has been in the can the whole time, so why not? The main reason is that it is harder to keep air out of the food. If it is only going to be there for a day or two if you can cover it well it is ok. Better yetb buy some plastic lids made for thepurpose. I find them in the pet food aisle.

In my opinion, it is not advisable to store them in the fridge for a long time...because there is a possibility to corrode due to moisture and water content in the fridge...it might be contaminated the food inside of the can...

early cans were coated with galvanize.....the can you described has teflon type coating.....just to be safe I would use something other than the can.....tupperware, etc......
