I'm so used to it, if they're disappointments caused by other people, I usually just shrug them off. If malicious intent was involved, I usually write the person off from my life.
As for me, I try not to promise too much, or sometimes nothing at all.
Also, I don't idolize anybody. It's kind of hard for any public personality to disappoint me.

I'm usually pretty annoyed until I find out why it happened. For example, I'm waiting for a guest who doesn't show up. Once they call and explain why they didn't show, or why they are going to be late, then I can relax, even if I don't like the reason.
It's the unknown elements of a disappointment that gets to me. I start imagining people just don't care enough about me. A disappointment by someone I don't know is no problem. I just curse the bureaucrats, or whatever, and forget it
"Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, I'm going out to the garden and eat worms." Childish, I know, but it's part of me.

I just pick up and move on as best as possible. I recently lost my first child back in july to an early miscarriage. I beleive this was the heardest thing I've ever dealt with. I write my feelings in blogs and journals to make myself feel better. I always try to remember everything is temporary and we have to make the best of a situation. Somtimes blessings come in disguises ya know? I try to think about what i have in my life that im thankful for and count my lucky stars. Try going for a walk and looking at nature, writing, reading, dancing, just things to pass the time by things get crappy once in a while but if things were always peachy keen we'd have nothing to compare it to the good.

Treat them as potholes in the road. Assess the damage. If it isn't fatal it doesn't really matter. See what can be learned. And drive on - along a new road if that seems more interesting, or along the same road if I feel I've learned something about avoiding potholes and still want to see where it goes. Life is always a choice between persistence and letting go - and eventually we have to let go of everything.

Dissapointment is an essential part of life. It's purpose is to teach us that things willl not always go the way WE want them to but rather will proceed in the way that is BEST for us. So, while I am sad that something doesn't go the way I had wished, I DO try to find the silver lining in that dark cloud and learn from it, and move one fromthere.

It's not easy - but looking at the SOE concerning the disappointment & looking at if you'd set yourself up for diapointment, &/or what you could have done for a better out come, &/or can you do anything to prevent a repeat.
I teach my daughter to "change what she can change, accept what she cannnot change & to be smart enough to know the difference". Helps us thought a lot of disapointment - like dealing her abusive father.

Lately, I am dealing with a lot of them. I tend to withdraw for a while, think them through, change what I can and learn to accept what I can't change. It's a learning process that doesn't always make me happy, but I still learn and grow.

I think about telling someone else about the disappointment only to find that others think that what I find disappointing, is opposite to them, and rather than obcess obout it, look for how I can see the point.
