I'm 14-15 years old and i'm not sure if i suffer from depression.
I used to have a really really, good memory but now i have the worst memory! Usually on school nights i don't get enough sleep and i cry easily. I can't stop thinking and i sometimes most of the time can't sleep of night because in my head i keep on thinking. My parents put alot of pressure on me and say i must be my best in everything. I do exams for piano and i'm stressing really bad abut it, when i can't get something right i start crying abit. the exam is kind of expensive and my parents have spent alot of money on piano lessons and exam. I'm scared i won't pass. Do I have it? Should i see a doctor, any tips?

you cant worry about your parents and piano and things like that. it just sounds like you are under a lot of stress, but the fact that you mention yourself that therapy is a possibility when most deny they have a problem or that they need help. first off, dont stress on insignicant things like the piano and the money your parents spent. you do your best and that is the best you can do, however i think that seeing a doctor who can properly diagnose you is a good idea and the fact that you are willing is great. I went to therapy I was a few years younger than you, I was literally picked up by my dad and put in the back seat of the car. Maybe right now you are jsut under a lot of stress, but anxiety is a problem and whether it eeds to be short term or long term, there anre anti-anxiety medicines that are out there that a doctor can provide. talk to your parents, let them know how you are feeling, they can help you as well. support is a great thing and then you also may not be so stressed about things as hopefully they will also put less pressure on you, but i do highly recomend you see a doctor...i am not a doctor by any means but i was diagnosed with both anxiety and depression at 11 years old and it sounds more like anxiety to me. i may be right, i may be wrong, but i think it is more than worth seeing a professional about.

Ok dude. I want to say some things about depression. This situation that you are going through does not sound like depression. I work as a Drug and Alcohol Councillor and i know your not a drug or alcohol user but most of the people I work with suffer from depression. Look you need to relax. Yes you should strive to be the best that you can be but please strive for excellence not perfection. You will never be perfect because nobody is. You don't sound like you are suffering from depression in stead you may be a bit too overworked by pressure. Just try to relax and do the best that you can do, nothing more, noting less. You only get one shot in life and you must make sure you enjoy your life and be happy as much as you can especially at your age. Have lots of fun and when you go to bed at night think of happy thoughts and exciting things in life even if they sound stupid. As long as it makes you happy. Success is measured by happiness. Don't stress at 15 your life has just began. Put strategic plans in place to help get through the tough times and be as happy as you can and as positive as you can.

I think the first thing you should do is speak to your parents. This seems to be the cause of all your symptoms. Let them know that you want to do the best you can and always will, but the pressure is making you so stressed out that you are having trouble sleeping and functioning normally. Speak to them now before it gets any worse.
You can't see a doctor at your age without your parents present anyhow. It's best to get your feelings out in the open and hopefully the situation will resolve itself.

It is depression. I speak from experience. I had similar problems only i was a little bit older. In high school i had a nervous breakdown in front of the principal. Don't let it get that bad.

It's possible it could be situational and that it'll pass. Depression occurs naturally with everyone, it's only when it lasts for a period of time that it becomes a problem.

It wouldn't hurt to see a doctor about this. Perhaps if it is situational, they can prescribe a low-dosage of an antidepressant to see if it helps. It sure helped me.

sleep disturbance is one of the first symptoms a Dr homes in on for signs of depression, however if in other areas of your life you are still enjoying things then no you are not depressed, if you are eating OK seeing your friends finding life enjoyable you are not depressed. It seems to me you are just under a lot of stress and feeling unable to cope, you need to talk to your parents and tell them that you are having problems living up to their expectations after all at the end of the day the only thing anyone can do is their best.

These certainly are symptoms that are consistent with some sort of psychological problem. I think if you are worried enough about yourself to ask this question, it wouldn't hurt to get an evaluation. If you do have a mental health issue, getting the appropriate treatment will help you perform better in other areas of your life. I think you should ask your parents to help you see a psychiatrist or psychologist for an evaluation.

Hello,
It sounds to me like you are stressed out. You say you do not sleep, sleep deprivation is no good for anyone.
Look up some stress reducing techniques, get some sleep.
Wish you well.

in my opinion, you have a mild case of depression. this is common in teenagers especially females in this ages. hormones play a major role in this case. the fact that you were able to ask about this is a good sign that you can handle this condition. you may visit a doctor if you feel that it is affecting your day-to-day activities.
