I totally agree with you! What happens is that people don't take the time to read the true facts about our church, they just read sites with the wrong information when their purpose is to bash. The saddest part about that is that other people that has not done any research or something about our beliefs read those bad things said about us and that keeps in their thoughts and their mind and the misinformation about us expands. People who wants to know about our church should not look google Mormonism or Mormons because there are many sites that other churches who don't like us and disagrees with our beliefs make sites with nasty and fake information about us. To get the right info they should go to www.mormon.org and www.lds.org I know that there are some other accurate ones but I don't remember them. They should talk to the missionaries or ask a Mormon what they need to know.

So, you would not personally "bash" another person's religion. Good for you. Unfortunately, you are only one portion of a very tiny minority of Mormons who do not "bash" other religions - and you need to accept this fact.
Being a member of an organization which is known to have engaged in certain actions makes you subject to the very same suspicions placed on those members who actually did those actions. Live with it - or work to clean up your Church from the INSIDE.
And your claim that the Mormon Church does not engage in "bashing" other religions...I already know that is a false claim, dear. I have been "bashed" because I am not a Mormon - and it was a Mormon that did the "bashing"! Oh, and just so you know - that Mormon didn't believe in my religion, a fact which should be extremely obvious.

It really is unfortunate that, in an era of increasing tolerance, religious persecution exists in many forms.
To non believers, Mormons belief some "crazy" things: Baptizing for the dead, eternal sealing, various levels of heaven, the possibility of Godhood, the existence of Jesus and ancient people in America... it's all very strange to non-Mormons.
The question, I think, is -- why is this any stranger that believing that Jesus was born of a virgin, or that Muhammed was ordered to recite and record God's words, or that we have each lived numerous previous lives?
Well, Mormon beliefs aren't any more or less miraculous than the beliefs held by many other Christians, Jews, Buddhists, or other belivers.
There is one thing, however, that I think sets Mormonism apart from these other religions: It's age. The LDS don't go very far back in history. Barely 200 years. Catholicism, Judaism, and other religions go back for thousands. The birth of nations can be attributed to these religions.
500 years from now, I think Mormons will be persecuted just as much/little as other believers.
For the time being, however, Mormonism is still a very new idea to most people in the world. Very few people have taken the time to study their beliefs. And some of those who have are shocked by beliefs they see in opposition to their own.
It's the same old story. Christianity started this way, too. Christians were thrown to the lions in Rome. 300 years later, it was Rome's official religion.
Mormonism is bashed because it is a young religion imho.

I've been to every church and they are always bashing someone. I really think the Jehovahs are the most unpopular and the most horrible person I ever met was standing on a street corner with an Awake magazine telling others how to live!!! I don't think so. That is why you should follow Jesus and not all the people in this world. Half the catholic priests are pedophiles and there are all these nit picky ideas about cutting hair, dancing, wearing pants,Amway.. As far as I can tell everyone missed the point.. which was to love one another..you can read whatever book cover to cover and argue over this and that and it still says the same thing. The greatest of these is love. No where does it say to cheat on your wife, steal cars, shoot people and bash your neighbours religion!!!. Not anywhere.. People are imperfect.. Jesus was the model.

If you lived in Ireland a few years ago having a different religion might mean a little more than bashing.
Having a different religion has always determined our life span in other countries.
As a Mormon you will agree that your religion doesn't exactly blend in to the wall paper, so to speak!
Generaly speaking, we are all different in some way.
The one that is the most or the newest, usually gets the attention!
Don't let it bother you, though, it wont be long till someone new will cause a stir, and the Mormon religion won't be the center of attention, it ounce was!

Ok, here is an honest answer - you have the right to believe what you want, and what you believe isn't really all that stranger than what the rest of us believe. And most people don't hate Mormons. They do hate the way Mormon missionaries are not upfront about their beliefs. And Christians are offended when you call yourself Christians, because none of your core beliefs qualify you as Christians. If you want to believe there are many gods, that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three separate individuals, that God has a mate or the Spirit Mother, that God was once mortal and achieved godhood, that is your right. But that is not Christianity. It's not Judaism, either. It's not Islam. It's a polytheistic religion. That's not the opinion of Christians, Jews or Muslims, that's the view of the Bible and the Koran. You asked for an honest answer, please don't call this Mormon bashing.

Many of the folks are correct- Christians get bashed a lot more. But one of the reasons Christians talk down about the Mormons is because of their belief in an additional gospel- the book of Mormon. We wouldn't have any problem with you if you believed only the Bible was the infallible word of God. But God's word says in Revelation that we are not to add to His word. By adding additional 'scripture' in the book of Mormon, you are no different from the Catholics, who think the pope is getting new revelation from God all the time. Most scholars will tell you that the scriptures were closed long ago, after the last apostle died. It is dangerous to think that some man 1800 years later came up with 'new' teaching from God. There's no way to test it, and the things Joseph Smith taught do not all line up with the Bible. If it contradicts scripture, then it cannot be true. For example, Mormons believe that Lucifer was the brother of Jesus. The name Lucifer is not even in the Bible! The name originated with John Milton's poem, "Paradise Lost". It was mistranslated in one translation of the scriptures, and stuck for centuries. How can Lucifer be the brother of Jesus, when there was no such person? His name is Satan. Most Christians believe Satan was a fallen angel- Jesus is the Son of God. They cannot be 'brothers'. False teaching like this gets Mormons the thumbs down from a lot of Christian folks. Don't get me wrong- you all are pretty nice folks- but you don't really follow Biblical teaching.

I don't think people "bash" Mormons any more than they do any other religion. Those who "bash" any religion are likely to do so with any that they don't believe in. You are sensitive to the bashing on your own religion (and I must say, most Mormons, or member of the LDS that I have known have been wonderful people. If the"basher" doesn't know your religion, he/she may be more likely to take you as you are, then learn that your religion doesn't define you in the way he/she thinks it does, but I digress), precisely because it's part of YOU.
One thing that sets you apart from other religions, which I think may color people's thoughts, is the organized mission thing. A lot of people, religion being such a personal thing, are turned off by being evangilized.
Another is the (false) perception of plural wives. With the high publicity of the fundamentalists in recent years, and some of the women getting out of their grips, and telling their stories, people who don't know any better, and don't listen or read carefully, get them confused with legitimate LDS.
Does that help?

It all depends on where you are. Where I am nobody bashes mormons. They bash Christians the most. In some places they bash Islamic people the most.
People will always make fun of what they don't know or what is the most different. So, if where you are you are a minority and your religion has a larger gap than let's say Protistant and Catholic then you are a target. But, those same people would bash Hinduism just as much if it was staring them in the face.

The 'bottom line' objection here seems to be the door knocking. both by the young men only Mormons and the J.W's, where ALL OF US go preaching.
do you realise that even Jesus knocked on doors. So it cannot be wrong, no matter how people object.
](Acts 5:42) And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.
(Acts 20:20) while I did not hold back from telling YOU any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching YOU publicly and from house to house.
And is it correct for women to speak about what Jesus did. ?Should it be restricted to men only?
(Psalm 68:11) Jehovah himself gives the saying; The women telling the good news are a large army.
So whether you out there like it or not, the preaching work will get done.
Its the humble gentle ones that are being searched for after all.
