Could be colour blindness - it would be best to get him professionally tested.

I wouldn't call it a learning disability. My oldest son still had some trouble learning his colors around age 4. So... when we would go for walks (my daughter - about 9 at the time - and both boys - 4 & 1-1/2) we started playing "slug bug" (without the slugging). Every time we would see a VW Bug, we had to call it with it's color - blue slug bug, no slugs back... green slug bug, no slugs back... etc. We played in the car, too, and even my husband got in on it. He learned his colors in no time and my youngest learned most of his colors by age 2 because of it. We still play it now, but it's a competition... who can get the most during a car ride or walk down the street... lol. They are now 14, 9 & 6. Have fun with it... good luck :o)

No it's not it a learning disability he will learn his colours when he is ready as long as he knows them by time he is 5 that is concidered normal.
You can't force the issue but encourage it when you are playing cars on the floor just name the colors of the cars and he will pick it up soon enough.

Did you have him checked for color blindness.? Or it could just be like my son, learned his colors and is just being silly. His favorite color is orange, I'll ask him "What's this color"? And he'll say "Green" knowing full well that it's orange. He's just being silly and seeing what I will say after he gets it wrong. The next time you ask him the color of something play a little game. Ask him if pink is really blue and see what he says . Just pretend you don't know the color and see what he does. At his next doctors appointment ask the doc about color blindness. Good Luck.

Try not to worry.I helped my little boy learn colours with jelly beans.A couple of times a week i would get about 5 jelly beans of different colours. For each colour he got right,he could eat the jelly bean. Its amazing what they remember for a treat.I also did it with little pieces of fruit.I found it better using things the child could eat or play with, rather than just from a book.I wish you well.

What colours is he having problems with?
Colour blindness would be my first guess.
Try getting him to sort by colours (try m&m's).
See if he puts different colours in same piles consistently (eg red and green or red and blue or even green and blue!)
Yellow and brown are generally not generally affected so should get put in individual piles.
If there seems to be a pattern to his confusion, see an eye specialist and have him checked for colour blindness.

I would try and work with him a little. I made "flash cards" for my daughter. I cut out like one square for each color from construction paper. I did the same for the Alphabet, and Shapes Laminated them that way she wouldn't tare them up easily. She is only 2 and she knows all her colors, shapes and alphabet. She loves playing with the cards and trying to get me to guess. Its fun for the both of us and she learns in the process.

Maybe he should be tested for colour blindness. Eight percent of caucasian males are affected by red/green colour blindness.
You can find some different images to test for colourblindess at this website: http://www.everwonder.com/david/colorblind.html

It is NOT a disability... boys tent not to absorb the colors as much as faster the girls do...
My little nefew was 5 when he really got in to the "color stage"...
Just be patient...
