Christians believe that the Messiah of Isaiah, and the Old Testament was Jesus. I don't know if you've ever heard of them, but there are biological Jews who believe in Christ as the Messiah called Messianic Jews. These are Jews who realize that the Messiah has come, Jesus.
Anyways, the Jews don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah because the believe that the Messiah will rise as a strong political leader, and a man that is a high king, that has a ton of power. While Jesus was nothing like that. That's why Jesus was nailed to the cross and crucified because the Jews believed that Jesus was heretical and fake. That's also why in the Passion of the Christ, the Jews are the ones who put Jesus to death because they believe that he was going against their religion, not because Mel Gibson is a racist, because that is actually what happened.
But anyways yea, basically they are still waiting for the Messiah because they don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah.

Since the whole thing is a Hebrew matter, you need to become fluent in biblical Hebrew first and understand the variety different meanings of a Hebrew word. As in the particular case of the word "Messiah" it is actually associated with a particular era namely the era or the age of Aquarius which is associated with enlightenment which is just being ushered in. There are many more things you need to learn from the old testament to finally understand what really Messiah or the Messianic age actually means. And then only, you can question the people of the same race and nationality of Jesus (Highly Observant Jew) are still waiting for a Messiah.

Because the reglious leaders of Jesus day did not undrestand what the Messiah was to bring. They though that He would restore the Jewish Kingdom here on earth. That was not God's plan but man's. That is why the Jews are still waiting for the Messiah and will be until His second comming.

With the unfortunate few..."the discerning ones" All G-d Loving Jew's will wait for the words of G-d to come to fruition. When the Messiah as promised will deliver us all once again to the promised land. And Oh; Gee really sorry about your appointed deity who took a few nails to the hands and feet thing but wasn't that the Romans who laid his soul to waste?

Not all Jews are waiting for the Messiah.
Some discerning ones have accepted Jesus as the Messiah.

its quite simple.
jesus did not complete the tasks that both define and are the purpose of the messiah.
lets say you have a broken drain. so you call a plumber. ... your waiting for the plumber.
then an electrician comes and puts in a new electric socket.
is your drain fixed?
... the plumber still hasn't come.
edit: and no. there are NO jews that belive jesus was the messiah. it is a matter of fact that jesus did not fulfill the purpose or definition of what the jewish messiah is. any jewish person who comes to belive that has betrayed their God and forsaken their heritage and are NOT Jewish at all.

Many thought the messiah would also come as a conquerung King. When Jesus did not fulfill this in their time, they denied Him and look for another. But Jesus is the messiah and the coming King who will rule by force in the future.

Because they believe that there won't be a Messiah without the Day of Vengeance.
Plus God promised them that they would reject the cornerstone.
here are some verses:
Isaiah 61
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
Luke 4:
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21 and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
Notice he stopped in the middle of Isaiah 61:2!
God is a genius!
Romans 9
27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel:
"Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea,
only the remnant will be saved.
28 For the Lord will carry out
his sentence on earth with speed and finality."
I am in awe. And I understand ! Thanks to God!
