Mine doesn't. But I have friend who's labs smell.

Difference, mine is fed high quality food, while theirs is fed extremely low quality food.

Smell is a relative term :) Dogs with water proof coats (like Labradors) have higher concentrations of oils in the coat, thus giving them more of a natural "doggy" odor than some other breeds. That does not necessarily mean that they stink. Provided that the skin and coat are healthy, and they don't indulge in their love of swimming in icky water, a bath once a month or so is fine to keep most of them smelling good.

All dogs stink if their not taken care of (or if they have a skin disease).

My lab doesnt smell unless she has been swimming in the river, and in that case, she gets some good ol soap and water.

Every dog with a functioning nose smells.
However, labs, like most canines, don't stink if they are regularly bathed and well groomed.

i.e.:
smell = (the ability to sense odors) "I smell it."
stink = (emit a foul odor, or the odor itself) "It stinks."

No, i'm not sure where you heard that. If you feed your dog the best quality food, bath and groom them you shouldn't have any problems.
