The way I look at it, if you can believe the answers you received, God lied for 4000 years, yet the Bible says "God cannot lie", the Jews did not believe in a Trinity, because there is no such thing, Hell fire, Immortal soul, and these also they did not believe.
There is no such thing as the Trinity, This is largest lie that Satan uses to keep people from knowing who the True God is, if he can do this, he's got you.
He has cleverly kept a large proportion of mankind in darkness by means of false religion, making them think that they are serving God. Lacking in accurate knowledge of God and in love for truth, they may be attracted by mystical and emotional religious services or be impressed by powerful works.
“Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36) How do these words confirm that Jesus is not Almighty God?
Jesus says that the Father knows more than the Son does. If Jesus were part of Almighty God, however, he would know the same facts as his Father. So, then, the Son and the Father cannot be equal. Yet, some will say: ‘Jesus had two natures. Here he speaks as a man.’ But even if that were so, what about the holy spirit? If it is part of the same God as the Father, why does Jesus not say that it knows what the Father knows?
1st of all Jesus said: He pointed to God as the Source of his life, saying, “I live because of the Father.” According to the context, this meant that his life resulted from or was caused by his Father, even as the gaining of life by dying men would result from their faith in Jesus’ ransom sacrifice.
Jesus’ being called the “only-begotten Son” does not mean that the other spirit creatures produced were not God’s sons, for they are called sons as well. However, by virtue of his being the sole direct creation of his Father, the firstborn Son was unique, different from all others of God’s sons, all of whom were created or begotten by Jehovah through that firstborn Son. So “the Word” was Jehovah’s “only-begotten Son” in a particular sense,
Jesus is also “Mighty God” and “Eternal Father.” This does not mean that he usurps the authority and position of Jehovah, who is “God our Father.” (2 Corinthians 1:2) “He [Jesus] gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God.” (Philippians 2:6) He is called Mighty God, not Almighty God. Jesus never thought of himself as God Almighty, for he spoke of his Father as “the only true God,” that is, the only God who should be worshiped. (John 17:3;
Rev. 1:1; 3:14, RS: “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him, why did God have to give the revelation to Jesus, if he is God? .
Does the Bible teach that none of those who are said to be included in the Trinity is greater or less than another, that all are equal, that all are almighty? Mark 13:32, RS: “Of that day or that hour no ones knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Of course, that would not be the case if Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were coequal, comprising one Godhead. And if, as some suggest, the Son was limited by his human nature from knowing, the question remains, Why did the Holy Spirit not know?)
John 14:28, RS: “[Jesus said:] If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.”
1 Cor. 11:3, RS: “I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.” (Clearly, then, Christ is not God, and God is of superior rank to Christ. It should be noted that this was written about 55 C.E., some 22 years after Jesus returned to heaven.

Paul says in his letters and epistles for Christians not to feel smug or superior as they are branches grafted into the root that is Judaism. (Romans, Ch. 11) Christians didn't "figure it out" - it was revealed to them by God. Jesus Christ is/was the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies (read Matthew's Gospel).
No, the Jews did not know about the Trinity back then, it wasn't revealed to them. God chooses where and when to reveal Himself to mankind. Early Jews did not believe in a heaven/hell type of afterlife either. Their theology also included the idea that bad things (illness, personal misfortune, etc) happening to people was always the direct result of that person sinning (pre-Job). Their understanding of God was imperfect. Our understanding of Him today is not perfect of course, but we have more to go by nowdays thanks to Jesus Christ.
Edit:
wordman: Good points. Actually, the very first reference to the Holy Spirit is in Genesis - Genesis 1:2 -
Genesis 1:2 (NIV)
"Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters"

Apart from the plurals "us" and "our" in Genesis 1:26 there are other references to the Trinity even in the Old Testament.
"THE LORD said to my Lord, 'Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.'"(Psalm 110:1)
Obviously there appears to be more than one "Lord". "My Lord" refers to the Messiah.
"Come near to Me, hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; From the time that it was, I was there. And now the Lord GOD and His Spirit Have sent Me."(Isaiah 48:16).
There are three distinct entities here - "I" and "Me", "Lord GOD" and "His Spirit".
So, the Trinity is not unique to the New Testament. And the idea of Trinity was not Paul's but Christ's - "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."(Matt. 28:19).

If you read the Bible, Jesus fulfills the prophecies- to start He was born of the line of David, in Bethlehem... I am not at all saying Jews are wrong (everyone has a right to their own beliefs and I totally respect that), I am simply saying that Paul wasn't the one who superceded the Prophets. I believe that Jesus was the fulfillment of thousands of years of Revelation through hundreds of Prophets.
The Trinity comes in in that God himself is threefold, He is the Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit. It was impossible for Jews to know this before Jesus, because that part of the trinity (the son) did not exisit before that.

There is plurality of God spoken of throughout the OT. Read the passage about the tower of Babel, for instance. Notice the word "We."

Would it be really unforgivable for you to have a drink, just every now and then, take the edge off, you know, help calm your nerves, whaddaya say?
EDIT:
brkshan..., let's go back even further, if one must speak in linear terms.
If certain concepts are shared among belief systems, who is to say that separate, independent revelations did not inspire them, without need for "borrowing." If concepts had to be borrowed between humans, then perhaps they are not of True Origin...you see where this can lead?
Besides, there are at least as many differences between the belief systems as there are similarities. The caste system is a major one, both in its origins and its continuing practice, which is perpetrated by the orthodox religion itself. I for one have no interest in that "copyright."

Let's go back a little.Hinduism is one of the oldest religion on this earth(Say around 5000 years or so)and in it,the trinity is formed by,1.Brahma:-one who is the creator,of all life and every thing,2.Vishnu:-Who supports all life systems(all living beings including humans) and,3.Shiva:- the destroyer, who annihilates or destroys all life forms as Death.Rest of the religions have borrowed, modified the concept and adopted it.If Christians still want to claim the trade mark for a copy right,Hinduism would have no objections,as such issues do not add value to it.

From what I've learned on here, there at least 3,000 beliefs in a deity on Earth. This means that at least 2,999 of them are probably wrong. With this kind of track record, I don't think anyone can truly claim to know whatever the heck "God" really might be. No one has a monopoly on what God is.
However, I agree with your assessment of most Christian's knowledge of history - they don't even know the history of their own church. Ask them about the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D., and most of them will just wonder what you are talking about.
