Depends on the religion. Christianity conflicts with science, there's no debate about that.

Uh... technology can provide an evidence for faith in lots of strategies, jointly as we can't have it pinned each of ways all the way down to top genes or traits, this is sparkling that faith isn't something greater advantageous than a mix of human behaviors and not motivated from "supernatural sources". Edit: there is not any longer any motive to assert that technology won't be able to be was once knowledgeable the supernatural, as though the supernatural existed, it may be studied, or at a minimum, the supernatural's interactions with the traditional could be studied. the only strategies this would fail is that if the supernatural was once incredibly random or if it did no longer exist.

If you don't take the bible literally, then no, they really do not contradict each other. If you read genesis with an open mind, you can even find a few verses that could be referring to evolution. For example, when it talks about creating animals it says "and God said let the LAND bring forth..." and so on. What does it mean by God said let the land bring forth the animals? Why didn't he just say "let there be animals", like he did with light? Why did he tell the land to do it? Could this mean he wants the land to do the work? Maybe, maybe not. It also explains vegitation, and sea creatures this way too. The order of creation explained in genesis also fits with evolution....it starts with sea creatures, then land animals, then humans. Sorry if you don't like this explanation. My pastor actually pointed this out to me. It made sense to me. Just remember, the bible was written by man, and it contradicts itself all the time. Maybe the bible really isn't all that accurate. While much of the bible could just be made up, I highly doubt that it is based on nothing true, though. If someone wanted to make up something that would explain things they didn't understand, why would they make up God? Why not something else? And why put so much time into it if he's not real? Whatever you do, do not let science take you away from God if you believe. Science is awesome, but it doesn't have to conflict with one's belief in God.

i might happily agree with you that they don't have to contradict, but why is it that they so frequently do? as long as religionists claim to know "absolute truths" about the natural world, and scientists refuse to respect and not intrude upon the domain of religion (whatever that really is), there will be conflict.

They don't contradict. They supliment.
Science is the study of the physical world
Religion is the study of the spiritual world.

Genesis exactly agrees with modern science regarding the creation of the universe.

i don't think it is possible for any one religion or religious book to contain ALL the truth of how the universe works.
