Why does a game such as last week's West Virginia vs. Syracuse game spend half the week "off the table" then suddenly end up with a point spread on Wednesday?

Does someone suddenly decide there is enough people who want to bet on it to determine a point spread?

Usually, a game doesn't get a line because there is some extinuating event that needs to be rectified before the Oddsmakers are able to set the line. For example if a key player got hurt, and they wouldn't know his status for a few days, they might hold up the line.

Vegas doesn't establish a line on a game if there is a question on whether or not a player will play. If a major player is listed as questionable and has an injury, you may not see a line on a game till Wednesday or Thursday.
Last week Jake Delhomme was listed as Questionable with his shoulder injury and there was no line posted on this game until mid-week.

A single word? Maybe you are going too far. I accept that by far not everything in the Bible is history, but the life of Jesus certainly was. Don't make the mistake of trying to read the Bible as a history or science text. It's an ancient book and you should keep that in mind, or you won't see the big picture.

because top handicappers like myself look for prime "middle situations. i had twenty grand ready to bet had the line come out Monday am. then Wednesday when the true line came out 3 points different i would have bet the other team. sure, i probably would have split and lost the juice but this particular game was prime to risk $2,000 to win $40,000 on an even money bet. sport books hate when that happens

There were questions about both Pat White and Steve Slaton as to whether either would play, so a realistic point spread could not be set until their status was certain.
