During the Soviet/Afgan conflict the Soviet Army sent a Training Group to assemble and train instructors for the Afgan Army. After the Soviets left Afganistain some of these instructors migrated to other countries and offered their services to radical groups such as the Taliban.
The Taliban offers a recruit training program that runs from 8 to 16 weeks, depending upon the leadership capabilities of the individual and their desire to be a fighter or a martyr.
The "human bomb" course is 2 days. Those with exceptional skills learn bomb making (IED). Judging by the effects of their mortor fire, they either do not have adequite training or ammunition for practice. They do learn group(squad) tactics and how to fight in urban situations, set up ambushes, etc. They are reasonably trained, good fighters and have what they feel is a "just cause" to conduct a war. Many a country has been defended and regimes turned over with less.

Most of the Taliban 'fighters' are nothing more than paid mercenaries for northern Pakistan. Their military skills are virtually nonexistent (as demonstrated by the casualty rates when they get in firefights with our troops) and their tactics mostly focus on intimidation of remote villages.
Below is a link that discusses the current Taliban's situation and operations.

Well as long as the fighter has passionate hatred against the West and the infidels who invaded there country, he should also know how to fire a gun and carry out various tasks, like construct and plant bombs etc... If your a fast learner than you'll be on the front lines faster than the others.

taliban training involves an intense period of learning two things: how to use a box cutter and how to make propaganda film. The components of propaganda film are: learning how to hold a gun, learning how to hold a bazooka, film technique, how to choose a back drop for a film, basic makeup, basic sound and video editing and most importantly a course on the history of American presidents.

training? funny.. they are used to use AK since their childhood, they move in that terrain since their childhood, too. they do not employ smart tactics. Iguess the popular terrorist training movies are just the bootcamp, with limited physical education and intensive religious indoctrination. 14 days of brainwashing and forwards to the frontline.. sorry into the marketplace.
