Sterilization is a harmless surgical procedure that will not injure the dog in any way. They area ble to do anything any dog can do, except make unwanted pups to starve in the streets. My 16 year old chow mix is neutered, and he's kicking it just fine.

Sterilizing dogs is a very good idea and actually tends to have more good long term effects than bad short term effects. A dog will be sore for a few days, especially a female dog, and they may need some aftercare from a human to heal up properly. But when they are spayed or neutered, dogs tend to live healthier lives afterwards.
Sterilization reduces aggression in male dogs, so they are less likely to get into fights and be injured, or try and attack a human and be put down. Female dogs stay healthier when they are not producing litters, and are not at risk of developing cancer of the reproductive tract like unspayed dogs are. Plus, when an animal is sterilized, it's no longer contributing to the overpopulation problem. It's really a win-win situation for the dogs and the humans around them.

Spaying or neutering a dog is absolutely the best thing you can do for the dog's health and to control dog overpopulation. Spaying removes a female dog's reproductive organs, making her incapable of becoming pregnant. Neutering removes a male dog's testicles, therefore he cannot make a female dog pregnant.
There are NO negative side-effects! NONE! In fact, an altered dog will almost surely be healthier and live longer than an unaltered one. The dog will be calmer and less likely to run away. And the dog won't be contributing to the problem of overpopulation. Having the dog altered is an excellent idea.

The best way to control the dog population is to sterlize them (also called spay and nueter). If you sterlize the females, you are going to control the population better than just getting the males, but it will be more costly.
Only side effect is mild pain for a while, and they need medicine so they don't get an infection.
Or do you mean euthansize (kill the dog)? If you want to put them down, they will die quickly and painlessly. It is like taking too much of one drug and falling asleep and never waking up.

Sterilization has been shown to have many positive long-term effects. It's a routine surgery and the animals often live longer, happier lives. It's a good way to curb the population without having to rely on owners (which may or may not be there) confining intact dogs.

Sterilistation has no ill effects for your dog - provided it is done by a preffesional vet in a hygenic clinic. It will help reduce the dog overpopulation and actually has many health benifits for your dog - eg take away to risk of certain types of cancer, and can help with aggression issues. You also won't have to deal with any unwanted pregnancies in female dogs and the complications that can arise during preganancy and whelping.

Neutering a male dog eliminates his ability to produce puppies. One disadvantage to neutering however, is some dogs get fat and lazy.
