"Exotic" refers to a wild cat or the breed "Exotic Shorthair". I think you mean you want a cat with a pedigree. You will find information on pedigreed breeds at tica.org . Some members have web sites linked there, also, or search the internet for TICA registered breeders of the breed you seek. In North America, most of the breeders I know place kittens at 12+ weeks of age following vaccinations and spay/neuter. Ethical breeders NEVER supply pet stores.

You can buy from a breeder, but all cats & kittens that represent their specific breeds are going to cost you money.
Exotic breeds are going to cost you even more. Nobody gives these away for free.

look in the white pages or online for cat breeders. I hope your bank balance is nice and healthy because they are not cheap. I have normal every day kitties and I love them just as much as I would an exotic breed, cos to me they are all worth a million bucks. You could go and spend hundreds of dollars and end up with a majorly feral cat whereas you could rescue a kitty and end up with a friend for life with oodles of love to give.

You should try your local Pet shop or go to the nearest large City and check out the Pet shop there. Kittens will grow up to be a Cat quicker than you think. Most baby animals grow up faster than human and are ready to breed within 6 months or so. The other alternative is to search the web on pet sites.

If you don't have an understanding of and appreciation for the amazing qualities of the ever popular "stray" I doubt you'll be any better off with an exotic breed.

I have a 3rd generation Savannah, a crossbreed between the African Serval and the Bengal. I tell you, they do not come cheap, and very few dealers breed them. I paid over $1000 for my cat.
I also have a purebred Abyssinian which I found in my local shelter, and I find it to be friendlier and easier to manage than my more feral Savannah. He was also better on my bank account.

Maine Coons are wonderful cats. Often times you can find them at shelters. Although they're usually older. They can get quite large and people don't realize what they're getting into.
Great cats though. I have one that we saved.
