I have this dream over and over again: I am staying in a hotel on business travel. On the morning I have to check out, I realize that all the stuff I own is at the hotel and I have to pack it all like I am moving. So I begin to put stuff into boxes as fast as I can and then all of a sudden I am inside of a big oak barrel rolling down a hill. The barrel says "Acme" on the side like it is from the Roadrunner cartoon. When I get to the bottom of the hill, the barrel splits open and then I am talking to a cat named Dude and a dude named Cat. I always wake up without remembering a word that they said.

Does anyone else have this same dream?

According to the activation-synthesis theory of dreams, the dream probably has no meaning at all. (Sorry, that may not be what you wanted to hear.)

Although dreams are influenced by our thoughts throughout the course of the day, this does not mean they are special messages to us that we should carefully consider.

Here's one perspective:

"Activation Synthesis Theory is a neurobiological theory of dreams, put forward by James Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley in 1977, which states that dreams are a random event caused by firing of neurons in the brain. This random firing sends signals to the body's motor systems, but because of a paralysis that occurs during REM sleep, the brain is faced with a paradox. It synthesizes a narrative by drawing on memory systems in an attempt to make sense of what it has experienced."

You will be very hard pressed to find anyone who shares the same exact dream with you, even if it is a recurring dream. I do not want to speculate, but I think that dreams are fascinating.

try this website for specific topics and examples of those topics:

There you will find information like this:

Hotel

To see a hotel in your dream, signifies a new state of mind or a shift in personal identity. You need to move away from your old habits and old way of thinking. Or you feel the need to temporarily escape from your daily life.

Wood (No entry for barrel, but you are breaking out of a wooden vessel)

To dream of wood, suggests that you are feeling dead inside and emotionless. You may be behaving automatically and just going along with the flow. Or you may be acting out without fully thinking things through.

To dream that you are carving or shaping a piece of wood, indicates a power-giving, creative act/gesture. Alternatively, the wood may also symbolize spirituality and vital energy.

Cat

To see a cat in your dream, signifies much misfortune, treachery, and bad luck. However, for the cat lover, cats signifies an independent spirit, feminine sexuality, creativity, and power. If the cat is aggressive, then it suggests that you are having problems with the feminine aspect of yourself. If you see a cat with no tail, then it signifies a lost of independence and lack of autonomy.

I try to organize their interpretations of symbols and relate them to my dreams, then construct a logical interpretation of what my dreams mean.

No. I never had this same dream. you have too much stuff that somehow is associated with work and too much of it and you wish it could all just blow up and live a life where the most confusing things are a dude named cat and a cat named dude.
