I used KeyfinderThing from www.download.com and the product key seems different from the back of my computer. why?

Its on a green sticker

with out into going into too many details, the product key is the one that came with your machine, that is the one that will tell the mothership that is captained by Gates, that all is well in his world and you are not stealing anything.the key finder that is uploaded to websites is nothing but trouble to the average user so use what came on your machine, nothing else, and never share it. most of us in the know could write a dozen pages on this subject, but you are probably bored to read this by now.

The XP Product Key was on a sticker which was on the plastic protective case or envelope of the CD. The number on the computer is probably the serial number of the computer.
The XP Product key is usually about 25 characters long, while the computer's serial number is not.
