I have a few questions regarding marriage issues. I need these answers based on Christianity, not based on Laws or what Americans think it is acceptable or not. In other words, I want to know what Christianity says about these issues, not what Christians say.

1 - Divorce.
2 - Number of wives.
3 - Age to get married for women and men.

Again, I don't need to know about what you think, or what is the law for these issues. I want to know what Christianity taught about these social issues.

1. Divorce: "It was also said, `Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery." Matthew 5: 31-32

"They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery." Matthew 19:7-9

2. Number of Wives: "But from the beginning of creation, `God made them male and female.' `For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder." Mark 10:6-9

This suggests that God intended for there to be one man and one woman, forever joined, no longer being two, but becoming one.

3. Ages to get married: The Bible doesn't address this topic to my knowledge.

1. Divorce
Matt 5:31 - 32
Jesus: "It has also been said, Whoever divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce. But I tell you, Whoever divorces his wife, except on the grounds of unfaithfulness (sexual immorality), causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a woman who has been divorce commits adultery"

There are laws in the old testament regarding divorce. Here is some scripture: Deut 24:1-4. There is a passage that is often quoted about how God hates divorce. It is in Malachi 2:14-16.

2. I know of no verse that limits the number of wives that a man can have. The patriarches (Abraham, Jacob, etc.) had more than one wife - Abraham had Sarai and Keturah and Jacob had Rachel and Leah. Others had more than one wife as well. However, many of the biblical injunctions about marriage involve one husband and one wife. I've heard the argument that God only made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Eve and Carolyn, and Beth, and ...

3. Marriageable age varied. I believe that Mary, the mother of Jesus was about 14 - although it doesn't say that in the bible. I am assuming that a female had to at least have her period - which marked entering womanhood before she could be married. I don't have anything in the bible concerning that though.

Actually, divorce isn't allowed. Jesus, said the only reason Moses gave that to you is because of the hardness of your hearts. But possibly the only reason to divorce would be adultery. In the OT they married different wives. It doesn't mean they should. Judging from Genesis and what the commandments say you should only have one. Abraham did only take one wife (2 at different times) so I would say that is a good indicator since he's the father of all nations. Age you can get married - I don't think the marriage age is specified in the bible. I hope this helps.

God hates divorce - Jesus only allowed it and addressed it because our hearts are hard - but only when there is adultery or extreme neglect of vows.
Only one wife.
The age of marriage? The Bible does not specify but I believe Christianity follows common sense that a person prepares for their life first (education, career experience) but not to where they become lustful and may sin. Should be an adult (18).

The Holy Bible puts no restriction on the number of wives. It was only a few centuries ago that the Church restricted the number of wives to one.
According to Talmudic law, Abraham had three wives, and Solomon had hundreds of wives.
