Why is it so difficult for intelligent human beings to understand that there may be a lot more to this world and the after life than our minds can possibly fathom. Must they wrap themselves so tightly in a cocoon of ignorance and waste their lives believing that this is it.. That we are actually nothing at all but worthless trash. It's sad, but I believe that there is an after life... not a fantasy land but something well beyond our imaginations.

It's an interesting question. First, why is there a belief in the supernatural to begin with? No one has ever had contact with it, because it's somehow outside of nature (if it weren't, it would be part of nature and thus not supernatural), yet somewhere along the line, creatures started to believe in it, and the belief persists. I'm often dumbfounded by the people I know who subscribe to a particular religion. They are "normal" in every sense of the word, and yet they've constructed these insanely-elaborate fantasies in their head. It's one thing to believe that something caused the universe to be. It's quite another to pile on assumption after assumption, repeatedly, without ever seeing any proof, and still BELIEVE them, often in the face of a rudimentary understanding of the world and how it works.

And why is it so difficult for intelligent people to believe in something greater than themselves?

Science works in our reality. It works within our laws of the universe, how can it measure something that is outside of it?

There's no reason the two can't exist at once-Like two clocks-both ticking to a different time zone. I can't say the clock in China is wrong because the clock in Toronto Canada is ticking to a different time-They are both real, but aren't measuring the same thing..
Now check this out-China can never interact with Canada- They are two seperate places-Never to become one-(at least let's assume) Yet, Chinese people can com eto Canada and vise versa..Weak analogy-but the point is to show that spirits CAN briefly interact with us and we them. One can be born, and take a permanent vaca here, or we can die and be there---weird yes..but best i can explain. parallel we are.but those two parralelled lines are over top of each other.

We may have a mechanical body and brain, but what exactly is our conciousness?

I'm not Christian, and my beliefs about the afterlife are somewhat more complicated than a heaven and hell theology, but I will say, I do believe in life after death.

The question is a little biased, methinks.

Our definition of intelligence is based on reason, logic, problem solving, memory retention, etc... All of these concepts conflict directly with a belief in the supernatural. It's like asking "Why is it so difficult for monkeys to grow feathers?" Our definition of a monkey already excludes its acquisition of feathers, just like our dictionary definition of intelligence generally excludes a belief in something that cannot be proven by the scientific method.

Well, the word "supernatural" was devised by someone intelligent. They would have had to have known Latin at least. And they acknowledged the unexplainable. Now, how old is that word, exactly? Was there another word that preceded that one which helped to explain something not of nature, yet not unnatural? It is a valid definition. Thank you for listening

perhaps its you that wraps yourself in ignorance.

for some of us the "supernatural" is as real as gravity.

you see its not "supernatural" at all, but beyond the normal... its entirely natural, simply part of the natural world that is beyond "normal" perception.

are you truly so arrogant to say that science is able to perceive everything that is?

is it not, at least, to be scientifically honest, possible that its the same as someone a thousand years ago, saying that bacteria and viruses could not exist, because there was no way to percieve them.

some things exist even if there is no way to objectively prove that they do. and its irrational to say that they could not be perceived by ANYONE until theres the means to scientifically prove them.

if you were in a room with 9 people who had been born entirely blind, and had no scientific equipment, would you doubt your ability to see? not likely.

Is your spirit really that asleep. I had spiritual experiences long before I was Christian. So you are telling me that a part of you is not awake.

You are being resentful? Jealous?

You are not convinced that you yourself have a spirit that is as much a part of you as your skin, hair, and eyes?

Hey. Don't look at me! It's not my fault! And I cannot really relate to you how to have a spiritual experience. It's too much like trying to explain sex to a virgin.

You DO have a spiritual part of yourself. You just either haven't noticed, or it's sleeping.

Do you get out much?

When I started to read your question I thought it would be something "intelligent"...

Well, supernatural has nothing to do with intelligence, dear, but with intuition. Some people see what's around them, other people see the horizon in the distance. Some people see the bottom of the mountain and think that's the limit, other people climb it and see there is more in the other side.

Sorry for you...

Trust me, 'the la la land' you speak of will be much more bearable than the 'land of "wah! -wah"! ,for those who did not believe. Tell me, why does it matter to anyone what others beliefs are? As long as they don't impose them on another? I could say, if I loved you, I would want you to have and enjoy the blessings of experiencing the love of God as I have, so I'd be compelled to share it with you, just as much as I would my famous lasagna, or red velvet cake.! That should be the only reason anyone shares their faith, because of love, their own, as well as God's love for the one whom the are sharin' it with.

Sort of like asking why is so difficult for intelligent humans to understand the supernatural is real??? When so many things are they way they are and are so specifically put that way, its hard to see the randomness and not the design in it all.
