My gerbils use the Silent Spinner wheel and it definitely doesn't squeak, but it thuds. I have four gerbils and three of them are hefty. Another thing about those, is that they run on them so fast, that I have been through 3 or 4 wheels because they break! I don't know if other people have this problem...but mine just can't keep the wheel in tact. Good luck with finding a wheel that suits you and your gerbil.

Well, I have bought a wheel that has "silent" in its name and it was really silent because of the bearing, but broke after about 3 weeks of use... used by tiny dwarf hamster.
A vegetable oil actually reduces the wheel squeaking. Also, handy people can attach bearing on a metal wheel, that helps a lot.

Only one my my rats uses the wheel, but she uses it so much it makes up for the others not using it. I got her a Wodent Wheel. It's the only wheel approved by the ASPCA. It's pretty silent. All I hear is her feet padding on the surface and some shuffling sounds . Sometimes she gets some litter or poopies in the wheel and they rattle around. Fortunately, it comes apart pretty easily for cleaning ( I soak it in hot soapy dishwater first) When the wheel occasionally gets a little squeaky, I just put a teeeny tiny bit of graphite dust on the contacts. (be careful with this because the tiny particles in large quantities can be irritating to the respiratory system. blow off the excess particles before putting the wheel back in the cage) I have had to attach the frame to the side of the cage with zip ties because she uses it so much that, and she can move it around and then it scrapes on parts of the cage.

The Silent Spinner is the quietest I've ever found, although some hamsters run so quickly in them that it rattles the cage. You can also hear their paws as they run, but the wheel never squeaks. They come in numerous sizes, so it will fit any hamster (I have a hamster I rescued from a pet store that inbred them, and he's monstrously huge. He requires a rat-sized wheel, and Silent Spinner thankfully carries that size.)

I have a wheel (bought it about 6 months ago) called a silent spinner and it is the quietest kind I have found...the wheel does not squeak, however you can still here the thudding of the hamster feet hitting the wheel.

I was at my wits end one night as my hamster was going to town in his wheel. Out of desperation I found some black tape and put just enuf around the wheels axis to cover it all around. Then I scooted the bedding to one side and placed the wheel in just the right spot where it wouldn't hit any of the tank on the sides. and I used the black tape to secure it to the bottom of the tank ,scooted the bedding back over it and It was tons better. Give it a try and I hope it helps. It didn't make it silent, but much more tolerable.

I bought a wodent wheel for my rats. I lubricate the area where the bar contacts the wheel with a dry lubricant (forgot the name) but it's basically mica dust. All you hear is their feet on the wheel - pat pat pat pat pat. Unless they have gotten a piece of litter in the wheel, then it sounds like a rattle! LOL

Use it sparingly and with care because you don't want gobs of particles to be floating in the air in their cage - might irritate respiratory tract.

If the noise of the wheel is keeping you awake at night, can you move the cage somewhere else for when you sleep, like in the bathroom and shut the door?
