My friends husband is trying to locate his Birth Certificate. Problem is that he was born on a US Military Base in France. How and who would he have to contact to get his birth certificate?

He has to write a letter to the above address and provide the names of his parents, their dates of birth, his date of birth and place of birth. His birth was registered with either the U.S. Consulate or Embassy in France. He also has to enclose payment of $30 made out to the United States Treasury.
I registered a lot of U.S. births at my Naval Hospital in Japan with the U.S. Consulate in Naha, Okinawa. That's how I know this info.

desert has it right....even though US bases are US soil a baby born on a US base overseas is not issued a birth certificate by the base hospital or anyone else. you have to go through your personnel department and get documentation together to send to the embassy and the birth certificate (actually called a consulars report of birth abroad) is issued by them. the state department is the only place you can get these records the base has nothing, 6 months after you leave a base any remaining records they have there go into a "tomb" and are eventually destroyed so there is probably no record that your husband was ever born there.

Request the information from the army or airforce. US bases are (temporarily) US soil and the military keep records
