Acetaminophen is not an NSAID, naproxen is. They actually work quite well together. If it wasn't safe it wouldn't be recommended to take Advil (NSAID) with Vicodin (hydrocodone with acetaminophen) following wisdom tooth extractions.

There won't be no harm in taking both in a day or two at a prescribed doses. However using tylenol for purpose of making you sleep is not a smart idea. There are other safer alternatives that you can try.

Acetaminophen has more effects as analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (for fever) but does not work for inflammation. Whereas naproxen works more as antiinflammatory and as analgesic as well.

Acetaminophen has more bad effects on the liver while naproxen could have nasty effects on your gastrointestinal tract.

To benefit from the main actions of both should be the main purpose if you have to take naproxen with acetaminophen.

You can. Like someone else said, acetaminophen is not an NSAID, naproxen is an NSAID. Even some headache meds have a combination of aspirin with acetaminophen (like Excedrin) and work well since both work in different ways. I give you the aspirin example because Naproxen is related to aspirin. The best would be just to use the naproxen and a sleep aid with diphenhydramine (sleeping ingredient in Tylenol PM). The less medications you can use, the better. But, you can still use the Tylenol PM and the naproxen.

I would not recommend it. It may cause your tummy to feel quite unpleasant. Try to get the sleep aid that does not have acetaminophen. Too much acetaminophen can cause liver damage. I need a sleep aid too and I used to take Tylenol PM but after learning about liver damage I switched.

The effect of naproxyn should last about six hours. The question for you is why do need to take now acetaminophen, why do have this long term pain, what caused it. These are no candies that you should take them as you wish. There is pain syndrome known as analgesic- pain med- withdrawl syndrome, keep taking the pain meds and you will end up with this syndrome. So first need to find out why to take all the pain meds.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!
