wanna go for a 100mile trip? Is this just because I like driving 100's of miles in the car and losing money? Unless I could get rich at the casino from winning $50

That's it! I'm never going to the ballet again! I never win any money!!! I drive 100s of miles (since ballet is illegal in my state), and for WHAT? All I do is watch the money stream out of my wallet. Oh, and don't even get me started about the movies. My wife and I lost over $25 on our last trip there. I thought I'd be able to win it all back if I just bought the large Pepsi to go with the jumbo popcorn, but I might as well have been giving the money away.

OF COURSE if you look at a trip to the casino as a money-making venture then you'll be disappointed most of the time.* But if you look at it as entertainment without even worrying about trying to win, then it's not so bad. What it comes down to is getting the most entertainment per dollar. For the most part, you can do this by playing games with low house advantage (Craps Pass/Don't Pass bets or Blackjack with as few decks as possible) and low minimums. You can raise the heart-pumping excitement/entertainment level by making bigger bets, but that goes against the idea of making your money last the longest. You have to find the level that's right for you, and that level might indeed be not going at all -- that's fine.

For me personally, a nice crowded $5 minimum Craps table with a chatty stickman and fun shooters is worth the lost money just for the fun and excitement. BUT I do NOT cry about it if I lose the $25-$50 I walked in with. If I had a fun time, then it was a success.

I stay away from Roulette. Sure it's fun watch the "dealer" do the 17-1 math in his head, and the occasional 35-1 payoff always causes some whooping and hollaring, but the high house advantage makes the money slip away too fast for my taste. On the other side of the coin, I don't _mind_ Blackjack. It has similar odds to Craps, but it's a little too quiet most of the time. It's a nice little game, I suppose.

* Note: Contrary to conventional wisdom, not EVERYBODY loses money every trip to the casino. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose, but ON AVERAGE you lose.

he could have made up the story to comfort his friend, but the fact that you found him trolling eHarmony or that he was trying to make you jealous sets off warning flags (he's immature and petty). If you are pregnant with your first child together, he may be feeling the pressure of becoming a dad and is wondering if he is ready and up to the challenge (what type of family did he come from--intact or divorced or blended; what kind of relationship does he have with his father--loving or antagonistic). Will he be the only breadwinner? He may be having concerns about supporting the family on his salary alone. Don't mention the eharmony viewing or the comment that he made to the friend, instead focus on his concerns and fears about becoming a dad and being the family provider. Good Luck and congratulations on the new baby.

There are 2 answers I give to friends and relatives that tell me they are coming to Las Vegas to visit. 1) Remember that Vegas was NOT built on winners and 2) bring only the money you can afford to LOSE. I lived in Vegas for 12 years and have seen some sad things. If you have self-control, it can be fun, but don't be like Chevy Chase. He was fortunate to have a son to bail him out of financial ruin, Hollywood style. The casinos have no interest in you or sympathy for you. Just want the money.

Gambling is entertainment, not a money-making strategy. If you don't enjoy loosing a few hundred dollars for fun, you shouldn't gamble.

Poker is different slightly in that there is skill involved but even the best players can lose to a novice if they do everything right.

It's called gambling, not winning, for a reason.

ok, you have a problem, it's related to gambling and money.....you want to win, and you want money, both good feelings....but the casino is not for you right now, not right this second, you have to put your priorities straight, you want to save money and pay bills and get ahead, find out your monthly expenses say if it adds up to 700 to 900 bucks put that amount in your head....that's your bills.....now look at the rest of the money you have left......say if you have 600 left.....that's your savings........now put 300 in the bank (1/2) and gamble 300 (1/2) this way you're paying your bills, saving money AND attempting to win more money but make sure you can go with what you can afford to lose.....the motto is pay bills, save 1/2, play 1/2 if you really really like gambling go for this cause if you don't you'll spend all your money on gambling and save no money and be behind on bills :(

was this your first time? 'cause it sounds like it lol, casinos are fun if you can afford to lose the money, and once in a while you could get really lucky, but most likely the house will win...unless you're playing poker, and you're good at it...
