I repiedietly kept clicking the save button. i closed word and now to my horror my project which is due tomorrow is gone. I will do anything to not have to retype and research what I've done. I could really use some help.

OK John. first thing you have to do is sit back and take a deep calming breath. Your brain works better with lots of oxygen.

Now. Do you know about the recent file list in MS Word? You open Word and go to the "File" menu and there is usually a list of the most recently saved documents. This is a user preference and sometimes it is on and sometimes it is off.

That didn't help? OK. Follow this path one step at a time to the "Recent" folder. Go to the root level of your hard drive [ C:\\ ] Find the folder "Documents and Settings". Look down the list until you spot your logon identity, aka profile. In this folder you will see a list of folders. Find the one labeled "Recent". This folder is full of shortcut links to the user files you have been working with lately. You can sort the list of links by the date field. then go look at the most recent links to see if you can identify the document you need.

Can't tell which one it is??? If you cn think of a word contained in that document, one that is rther unique to this document and is unlikely to be in 4,000 files on your PC... The go to the Windows Explorer application and click on SEARCH on the tool bar. Skp the part that asks for the ffile or folder name and go the field that says "Containing text". Enter the unique word here. Move down the "Look in" section and select "Local Harddrives (C:). Now click on SEARCH NOW.

If this doesn't find the files, then you have one last option. beforre you start typing. You spend a lot of money and have a forensic technician search your harddrive.

Fingers crossed for your successful recovery of the misplaced document. And a word of advice. Select a place to save your documents, and be consistent about where you put them. If you always put your socks in the bottom dresser drawer, you know that is where you are going to find the clean ones. Same principle applies to computers. Under ordinary circumstances files don't get up and go walk about. They need help. Tell 'em where to go!

Unfortunately, this is a common occurrance for email save issues, except in Gmail.
I am afraid it is gone, unless you do this and succeed.
Go to control panel and open the folder options. Click the view tab at the top and then tick show hidden files and folers.
After applying, close everything and do this.
Open c:, or whatever is the letter of your hard disk drive, and then open documents and settings, then your user name folder, then double click on recent. Be patient, as sometimes this file is slow to open.
If you see the file name here, try opening it.
If you do not see the file here, it is probably gone.

go to Windows Explorer (click on "start" and you should see it, if not then click on programs, then accessories), right click on "my computer", click on "search", click on "documents", type in the name (or part of it) and click search.

Good luck
