A friend told another friend (that was catholic) about the pope saying something like "only catholics will go to heaven and all other religions are crap" ( those aren't the exact words but something to that respect.) The response of the catholic person was "well everyone needs some kind of reformation". What did he mean by this?

Thanks!! : )

I'm not saying that the pope actually made this statement. This is just a converstation between two people and I am wondering what exact the catholic friend meant by this.

maybe they thought the pope needed reformation because not all catholics believe the same things. If two or three Catholic priests believe something in that area it becames truth in that area. All they need is the majority in that area.

That's funny. The catholic person was referring to the Protestant Reformation, which was a European movement acting in opposition to Roman Catholocism. Martin Luther got it started (as a challenge to "paying for indulgences" - a silly sort of tax that made Rome rich), but it was spread by the happy accident of invention of the printing press.
Good times!

He's referring to the reformation, where martin luther created the basis of all Christianity that came after the catholic church, he was being sly, although the exact meaning is a bit lost on me.

He meant that everyone needs someone to tell them how to feel about other people that may be different from them.

"My religion is hate-filled, but I don't want to dwell on it."

That's the translation I'd use.
