No, Hel (one "l") is the Norse underworld.

It's basically the same as the Greeks "Hades".

"Did you hear that hell is the Norse underworld? What do you think of that?"

What do you KNOW about it is what I want to ask, anything? or next to nothing and you thought it would be a cutesy topic? Honestly, if you knew anything about it, chances are you would not have asked the question.

"i have never heard of it , but anyway i don;t think so"

"no its the grave"

"Hela is also Loki's wife, and she rules over the underworld, a rather boring place when they all sit to feast of empty plates, and there is no movement, no response from the residents of this place."

"Hell is Horror and pain, whether there are Norse men or what it is still Hell. If you want to experience some pain which might come close to Hell's pain, light your hand on fire,"

:sigh: Honestly, how some of you got this far in life is beyond me. It doesn't take much to pick up a friggin book people. If ignorance was fatal.....

"ok. theres this tree called the Yggasdril tree (i can't spell) and Hel is one of the worlds. It's where a Mortal's Soul goes, as opposed to the Godly (Partial or complete) who go to far out, i can't remember the name - but it's the world of the Gods, very few Mortals get to dine with the gods, only those who die with a sword in their hands get picked up by the Valkaries and taken to the Gods."

WHAT??!!?? Oh, and this is from your profile...."I'm Pagan/Wiccan............. don't like stupid people....there, done'

Too easyt. You did more than I EVER could have..............bravo.

"It's basically the same as the Greeks "Hades"."

go tell your ancestors that their beliefs are the same as some other cultures, I suggest you duck though, or you could learn instead of assuming.

Hel was a Norse goddess who was put in charge of the underworld by the same name. This is the ancient origin of the "hell" we hear about today.

I know this won't be a popular answer but it's a fact none the less ... Blessings!

I think that is true, having read Norse mythology -the original concept partly came from there.

Hela is also Loki's wife, and she rules over the underworld, a rather boring place when they all sit to feast of empty plates, and there is no movement, no response from the residents of this place.

Ugh ONE "L" Come on it's not hard!

Actually Hel was Loki's daughter not his wife. As was Fenrir, the oldest and Jormungand. Sigyn was his wife

piglet: That's.....really far off. And mash of everything, over simplified and some of it is flat out wrong.
Freyja gets first pick of the slain, Odin the second. The gods hand pick, no one else. ALL the gods have a hall. Not just Odin or Freyja. Thor's is Bilskirnir, Frigga's is Fenselle I believe, Freyja's is Sessrumnir, etc. Valhalla is not "heaven" it's Odin's hall where the valkerye live with him. They carry the slain off the field, but they do not choose them
