"and on that day many will come to me and say--- didn't we cast out demons in your name and didn't we do this in your name and didn't we do that in your name ---and he will say to them ---away from me you evil doers, for I do not know you"

It's clear these people had Faith that he would save them but, it is also clear that he does not.

Faith is not just believing with the mind and heart. Faith is a decision to believe and act what you believed in. The bible talks about faith complemented with action or "good works." The evidence of your faith is not just the language you use but the life you show. Without such faith, Jesus said, "I don't know you."

I do not agree with you that these people had faith that Jesus would save them. They had faith they could do things in his name. My kid could go and charge stuff at the store in my name and maybe get away with it. Some strangers could maybe get away with doing it too. But does that mean they really know me? Are they really friends of mine? I doubt it. Salvation is about trusting. Trusting for being saved. From stuff. That is a different subject than the power to cast out demons. A good example is Judas. He actually was hand picked by Jesus to be not only a disciple but an apostle. No one disputes he was chosen properly. Yet, the bible also says he went to Perdition. That's hell. Why? Peter didn't. What is the difference. Both had been given the power to cast out demons at one time. Peter trusted God to forgive him. He knew his God was merciful. Judas did not trust Jesus to even be able to forgive him. And so he gave up and killed himself. He lacked faith. But not the power to cast out demons at one time.

Others have hinted at this, but I think it comes down to something quite simple. The people came to him NOT with faith that he would save them...they came to him talking about the things they had done. This verse is yet another illustration of the simple message that we can not be saved by our own actions...by talking about the things they did, these people revealed that they didn't understand this simple message. Had they come to him and said they knew they weren't worthy but that they believed he would save them, he would have welcomed them the same way he welcomes anyone else that realizes that being a "good person" isn't enough!

people love to point out that the law has been done away with. if that is true, someone better tell Jesus because He said in Matthew 5 that not one jot or tittle would in any ways pass from the Law until heaven and Earth be done away with and all be fullfilled. That is two qualifiers. Even to say that Jesus fullfilled it, there is still the problem that Heaven and Earth have not passed away yet.

I don't think these had true faith. Read it in the KJV. Jesus tells them He never knew them. To me this means they were never saved. They were people who claimed to be Christians but never really were in their hearts.

Also note that Jesus did not say they did those things. They claim to have done them.

Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

B - it says Heaven and Earth will not pass until all has been fulfilled. Not that Heaven and Earth will pass when all is fulfilled.

I have wondered and worried about this for a long time, and what I finally came down to is that these people are focusing on what they have done for Him (Jesus), "we did this and we did that".

Salvation is about what Jesus did for us! He died for us as a free gift while we were still sinners, while we were His enemies.

Then out of greatfullness we obey Jesus and do these things, as a gift back to Him to say thank you, not as a payment to make us worthy or earn the right for salvation.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

A lot of people just don't get it. Faith and Works go together. We must live out our Faith with our Works. Both. Read the Book of James. He tells us that Faith without Works is like a Body without a Soul. Dead.

James 2: (14) My brothers, what [is] the gain if anyone says he has faith, but he does not have works? Is the faith able to save him? (15) But if a brother or a sister is naked and may be lacking in daily food, (16) and any one of you say to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, but does not give them the things the body needs, what gain [is it]? (17) So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead being by itself. (18) But someone will say, You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith out of my works. (19) You believe that God is One. You do well; even the demons believe and shudder. (20) But are you willing to know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is dead? (21) Was not our father Abraham justified by works offering up his son Isaac on the altar? (22) You see that faith worked with his works; and out of the works the faith was perfected. (23) And the Scripture was fulfilled, saying, "And Abraham believed God, and it was counted for righteousness to him;" and he was called, Friend of God. (24) You see, then, that a man is justified out of works, and not out of faith only. (25) But in the same way Rahab the harlot was also justified out of works, having received the messengers, and sending them out by another way. (26) For as the body is dead apart from the spirit, so also faith is dead apart from works.

You will notice that these people bragged about things that they DID - not about how great their faiths were. Jesus said that He never knew these people because they had no real relationship with Him.

cos some people say they believe in him, but don't mind or obey Him or do his will. They think if they believe in Jesus, that they dont have to do what God says

That scripture is regarding being lukewarm. Jesus doesn't accept believers who are lukewarm and says he will "spit them out of his mouth like lukewarm water." He wants believer to be on fire for Him and says it is better to be hot or even cold, than to be lukewarm.

God bless!
