I'm planning to go to britain next year and really want to catch some of the festivals i've been long pining for from afar. Which are the best ones?

Glastonbury and Reading. You won't get into Glastonbury

Depends what sort of music you like. Glasto is great, because of the eclectic mix of music on offer; Reading tends to be a little less varied, as does the Download Festival at Castle Donington (AC/DC, Muse and the Foo Fighters rumoured for next years headliners).

T in the Park (Glasgow) is always a good event, and has a more 'local' feel to it. A personal favourite is the Cambridge Folk Festival, which is not as full of Aran sweaters as you might imagine; Joe Strummer was awesome, a year or so back.

And finally the V Festival (Chelmsford/Staffordshire) tends to be a little more commercial, especially in the bands who play there, but can be a lot less intimidating for a festival newbie.
