Intrusive thoughts are there for a reason. They usually make us aware of what is going on in the back of our minds....The back of our minds or, self conscouis is alway's working overtime. It's trying to make you aware of SOMETHING!!!

The best thing is to ENTERTAIN the thoughts!!! Once you have weeded through these you will have peace.... I believe the back of your mind is disturbed for some reason and trying to make you aware of this!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand that your a truck driver......... Sometimes you have to be careful of the things that swim through the mind....Imagination play's a LARGE role, I'm sure!!!!!!!!

Either way, I'm sure you should evaluate your thoughts and SEE where they are coming from... It might be nothing...yet, it could be something.....Very hard with a Truck driver!!!!!!! You don't have much to fulfill your imagination!! yet, how do any of us know that it is not imagination and yet it is INTUITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Either way!! Good luck....If you pay more attention to your mind you will find thAT IT IS ACTUALLY YOUR FRIEND!!11

Good luck

Like the other posters, I'm not sure what you mean by intrusive thoughts. Are obsessing about something or is it just boredom that come with your job?

I found an this Wikipedia article about intrusive thoughts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intrusive_thoughts

It can be associated with disorders like OCD, anxiety, and other illnesses. If this sounds like what you are experiencing, seeing a doctor would be a good idea.

If not, and If it's job-induced boredom from the isolation, the only strategies I can't find to deal with it are: music, audio books, comedy CDs, language lessons, other instructional lessons, and ham radio. I know it's nothing too original, but you've got a difficult job.

Hope that helps!

Best of luck!

I had problems with intrusive thoughts and I saw a psychiatrist. I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. I'm not saying you have it but the only thing that worked for me was a medication called Abilify. I had intrusive thoughts of suicide, negative, sad and scary thoughts plus a running dialogue in my head talking about what I was doing in the 3rd person. Good luck.

When you say "intrusive thoughts," are they disturbing thoughts? Obviously you are going to spend a lot of time thinking due to the nature of your job. And some of those thoughts are going to be negative. I would think that is normal. I guess I am wondering what the nature of your thoughts are? If the thoughts seriously bother you and interfere with your usual activities, you may want to seek the advice of a psychologist.

Its caled thought stopping. Every time you start having a thought you want to get rid of substitute a word. For instance Apple. Keep saying it in your head until it drowns out the intrusive thought. Say it. Picture it. Create recipes for it. Imagine the taste of it......you get the idea

Hi there, I have been depressed and have tried various medicines. Some medicines suit you while some do not. I went to a psychiatrist who and gradually discovered which is the best medicine for me by trial and error method. Are you seeing a psychiatrist ? If not please start seeing one immediately. You need professional help to choose which medicines are right for you. If some medicines didn't suit me i would tell me psychiatrist what i was feeling so that he can decide and change the medicine if needed. Please dont try to experiment on your own.

talk to God,

You can also plan out things in your head, like what you would do if you had a flat tire, or look for license plates from different states, or take a ride along to talk to.

Try another job. It's hard not to think when there's nothing else to do. or listen to tapes of people talking on stereo.

personally, i can't stop thinking. i just think about myself and my life, then about the people around me. if you find a positive route to your thinking, you can learn some pretty amazing things about yourself, and personally, ive become a more accepting person through just thinking about how people do things out of insecurity.
